Low carb drinks

Recommended Posts

Crazyfacials, I was thinking more about mixed drinks, but I'm open to suggestions for good low-carb beers, etc, too.

hhhh1 - yeah, I just realised alcohol has 7 calories per gram, making it nearly as calorie-dense as fat. However, I like what Wikipedia's alcohol and weight article has to say:

The reason that alcohol may not increase weight is unclear, but research suggests that alcohol energy is not efficiently used. Alcohol also appears to increase metabolic rate significantly, thus causing more calories to be burned rather than stored in the body as fat (Klesges et al., 1994).

Sounds like as good an excuse to drink as any!

Straight spirits with or without a diet soda (or water) are the lowest calorie/carb alcoholic drinks you're gonna get.

Bombay sapphire & diet tonic with a squeeze of lemon and loads of ice is one of my top 3 fav drinks eva

Vodka lime & soda, beam & coke zero, etc, etc

Only notable calories are coming from the alcohol itself. Can't do any better than that.

My problem is the stupid amount of (often shitty) food I tend to eat when I'm drinking....

Ethanol causes a reduction in muscle protein and

ribonucleic acid content. The underlying mechanism

is unclear, but rates of muscle protein synthesis are

reduced

Acute or chronic ethanol administration impairs

the absorption of several nutrients, including glucose,

amino acids, biotin, folate, and ascorbic acid

All those 5% beers branded as low carb are just purely for marketing. They are no lower in carbs than normal 5% beers. The brewers have actually admitted this. The only way you can get lower carb beer is by drinking lower alcohol percentage beer. .i.e. Steiny light 2.5% has less carbs than steiny pure 5%.
