Makeup artists?

Hey everyone,

Im a newly trained makeup artist in auckland and I wanted to ask how everyone goes about the cosmetic/makeup side of competitions. I know spray tans are used but do you ever have makeup artists that you use regularly or call upon for each competition for body washing/air brushing(males/females) and full makeup (females) or an agency that you work through? Or just family/friends who know what to do.

I have just trained as a makeup artist in auckland and I am interested in all areas of my training and have found asking people who have experience has been the most helpful.

My boyfriend is working towards being a professional bodybuilder and he has really made me appreciate the respect you have towards your body and image. I want to get the chance to have a go doing competition makeup freelancing.

Hi Charlie, welcome to NZBB. It might be different for the ladies, but I think most guys generally just use the tanning product on their face too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it looks terrible.

I suspect the ladies who use makeup generally do it themselves, but that's only a guess. Hopefully some of them can chime in here.

I haven't competed myself but I've read lots of professional women Bodybuilders blogs and they are always talking about how BBing stage make up is very different from normal make up because of the color and intensity of the lights that are used in BBing and also the importance of the make up as competitors are judged on their makeup and how it matches the color of their dark tans, which will also change under the lighting on stage!

Sounds pretty tricky!
