A friend of mine is getting serious about losing weight this summer and is a crossfit guy. He's practicing a fat loss technique I've honestly never heard of before, and was wondering if you guys have tried it/heard of it.

Apparently he fasts immediately after training for a couple of hours to ensure his glucose is coming from adipose tissue - not food.

I've only ever heard of the importance of PWO meals so beats me...

thoughts?

He also tries to have a low protein intake because doesn't want his muscles to grow any bigger, only wants to lose weight.

I see it 2 ways. Either cortisol levels are high enough at this point to mean the opposite would happen or JR is right and it doesn't matter what the f*ck you do, it only matters how much you have eaten come the end of the day. Whey is thermogenic, anabolic (food in general can be) and absorbed so fast I would say that it'd support fat loss if you are in a deficit

Iv been following Josef rakish's IIFYM and disregard for meal timing and frequency and I'm getting leaner faster than I ever have before. Keeping my strength too.

This. Meal timing is nearly always bullshit IMO. It's about calories at the end of the day, with nurtient timing way way way down the list in terms of effectiveness - and I've read study after study to show this (most notably found in Alan Aragon's Research Review that he posts monthly).

Still not fully on the IIFYMs bandwagon in that I think clean eating has its place, if not for body composition then for health and performance.
