broken leg. supplements?

Since I joined here have been slowly cutting, started around 120kg and am down to 92ish with strength gains all round and fuckall muscle loss. Was looking forward to first proper bulk starting new years.

just got out of hospital with both bones broken in my right leg below the knee, fucking gutted, 12 weeks in full leg cast, no heavy weights on that leg for 6 months.

does calorie intake impact on healing at all? Any supplements apart from a multivitamin that will help with healing? any tips would be great, sitting on the couch for 6 weeks to start with is going to do my fucking head in

just insure you have adequate levels of protein and take a good multi, many vitamins are responsible for tissue growth/repair but i don't think you would see a significantly faster healing response taking on extra supplements, i think it would mainly be relevant to someone who was deficient/malnutritioned

Glucosamine and Chondroitin.. .

I took these whilst recovering from a compound femoral fracture. There's alot of skeptisicm on whether they work or not - but I reckoned why not? I recovered well.. .

Good luck with the rehab. The work (or rest) you do now will last a lifetime.. .

spoke to a colleague over lunch who works with bone injury (work in a hospital) and she said there is nothing proven to help with bone repair other than rest and the normal rehab. glucosamine can help with pain relief only. if there was a supplement available - the doctors she works with would suggest it to the appropriate patients - which they don't.. .

she did say under no uncertain terms to smoke. even having one can do a mountain of damage to the healing process. if you want the science stuff behind this (am sure some others might) just yell.. .

Multiple studies have shown a significant difference in the healing time of bone between groups of smokers and non-smokers. For example, a study performed on 54 patients who were surgically treated for a specific wrist injury. Of these patients, 95% of the non-smokers healed completely, while only 68% of the smokers healed completely. The average time until complete healing was over 2 months longer in the smokers.
