nabba universe 2011

Chilling out here in London and taking in the sights for a few days after a tough Universe competition on the weekend. Came in tighter and harder than the Pan Pacifics and Nationals this year and in the best shape of my life, yet simply did not get the callouts against the top 5 guys who I sincerely believe I had them matched. The local judges simply didn't compare me with them. Finally got a couple of late callouts but really it was too late by then and had to settle for 7th place in a field of 17. Couldn't make head or tail of the callouts they made no sense to me. Interesting that the top 4 places all went to UK guys. Anyway thats bodybuilding. Kaye found it the same in the figure division. Tough when you do all that work and then don't get a chance to show it. Oh well trying to get into holiday mode now and enjoy the sights of London. Phil K

Good effort Phil,

Always tough when you go up against locals in that sort of comp. Also I guess thats why they say you need to campaign to place in major comps? Getting your name known so you're called out rather than having an equal physique sitting in the backdrops?

Anyway 7th isn't to be sneezed at! Well done!

7th is HUGE!

I'm not sure how it works but I often hear things along the lines of "he may have placed better had the judges been familiar with him", I guess if the see how you progress it can effect how you place? So basically, now you name is in the hat, you can rise up the ranks. Again, awesome work

Yeah tough aye as I was 5th last year and this year I was way superior and way improved so bloody hard to take after another 12 months of huge time and effort. There needs to be lots more down under judges on the panel to balance things out. Phil K

I don't understand that Phil. You were in amazing shape this year and u placed lower than last year. I guess you can get that in an objective sport where everyone has there own agendas. :?

You should be proud of the way you came in to comp this year, if Mark Reed hadnt turned up you likely would have won the overall NABBA/WFF Mr NZ title.

At the end of the day, 7th in the world is pretty damn impressive

Enjoy the rest of your break and look forward to seeing some pics from the worlds when u post them.

Any links?

Which nabba universe was this, the real one or the othe nabba?

It was the REAL Nabba Universe, the other is NAC

Phil you did NZ proud you know that, that is what counts. In our eyes both you and Kaye should have placed higher and the other comment out there is correct, make yourself Known and promote yourself if anyway you can before you get to the show. Infact, promote yourself anyway you can no matter what. You are an amazing athlete and your presence on stage is definitely comparible with those who placed top 6.

Looking at the photos it was a tough class, roll on 2012.
