NABBA North Harbour Championships 2011

This was an interesting show. Due to the Rugby World Cup game in the evening, they ran it in the one-show format. They also changed the running order, so rather than leaving the open physique classes till the end (when the audience has gone home) they put them right in the middle of the show. Then they put the novice classes last.

The change disoriented us regulars who were accustomed to the "usual order" of things, but I think it held the crowd for longer. With a little more tweaking (eg, I'd like to see all the physique classes grouped together) it could work really well.

Anyway, here's a few piccies...

This was my first show, and the change disorientated a few of us in the Novice Athletic, we were naturally expecting the early slot, and waiting till late in the day was a shock.

Still, massively enjoyed the first show, only had a 7 week diet, and it showed, but the experience, and the amount I learnt made it worth while. I also think I may have a problem with retaining water that I need to figure out how to solve before the next one. :(

That's interesting, Peroxide. I'm surprised the athletes weren't warned sooner. It was a long show (started at 11, and when I left 5 hours later it was still going!). If you were at the opposite end of the show to what you thought, that could totally screw up your timing for water manipulation, etc.

That said, I think NABBA have the right idea in reordering the classes. It's just a bit much to expect audiences to sit around for over 5 hours. (What time DID the show finish?)

It's an interesting topic for debate, but it's not just a NABBA problem, so I've started a discussion on the order of the classes over here.

We found out around 15-30 minutes before the show started that they were changing the order of the show.

I'm not sure what it would have done to my prep exactly, but I know my nutritionist had planned my day for me to be on stage earlier rather than later, and of course, I am then at the show and can't ask them to modify to suit. Cest la vie.

I actually didn't hang around long after 4pm myself, I was exhausted, thirsty, and hungry, and wanted to catch up with those who had come to see me.

Both NABBA NZ and NABBA/WFF have a ruling set out for competitors that covers this issue raised.

It is on NABBA NZ under general competitor guidelines and it is also on the NABBA/WFF international website.

Great to see you enjoyed the show, however if you are not ready to do battle on the day when will you be ready?

No complaints at all, it's in the rules, it's in the rules, it was just a surprise.

Haha, when will I be ready? I was as ready as I was going to be on the day.

I will be more ready next time though. Longer diet, more experience.

Who was the guy in the brown trunks with his hair pulled back, hes a beast. That side tri looks awesome.

Mateo Vaihu. Absolutely amazing conditioning and symettry. You wouldn't believe how much he weighs. Looks a hell of alot bigger on stage, and beats much heavier guys.

One of NZ's classiest bodybuilders
