which is better before bed? over the past few years ive had porridge with PP or egg whites etc before bed when bulking and its seemed to work. i know a lot of people have fats like egg yolks etc instead of the slow release carbs. can someone explan how they are different when having them at this time? i know that the carbs keep the muscles full while you sleep/fast for 8 or so hours

I believe it is the lack of need for insulin while sleeping and if you have carbs before bed it just puts you into storage mode since you aren't doing any activity and they will likely be stored as fat ? Your liver and muscle glycogen is sufficient for function while your sleeping to prevent catabolism so there is no need for excess carbs.

2c here :)

i dont really think there is any need for carbs b4 bed, unless your bulking...

you should have glycogen replaced during day carbs (unless you workout b4 bed). Id go for fats + protein, more calorie dense so slower releasing + all the other benefits of fats (fat burning hormones etc)...

just my 2c
