how much carry over do you get from knee wraps? and also for a faggy bodybuilder when/if would you reccomend using them?

iv been told by some of nz's best powerlifters that you get like 20kg extra with them on a squat. and that bodybuilders shouldnt use them as the wraps will lift the weight, not you, which is pointless. but thats just what ive been told and have never personally tried them

Yea bro the wraps do all the work

Different people will get varying carryover dependant on the type of wrap, how used they are, joint size, wrapping style. I get about 20k. Steve lousich reckons he gets about 40k out of them.

:pfft: :pfft:  oh boy.... that's all.....

on another note I wear my loose and maybe get 5kg - 10kg tops there is alot off effort going into that to get this carry over, but wearing them tight I choose not too I like to feel my toes.... you will know what i mean if you try them and do them up tight it takes some getting used too.

And if the wraps lift the weight for you like you say where can I buy these wraps from :pfft:

I think you need to understand if you are going for a 1 rep max raw and get it and then put on wraps yes you will get some carry over but the effort is just as large actually more so to acheive the lift as to raw mentally and physically....

I reckon I get 20 out of a good, tight, wrap.

Saying they lift the weight for you is rubbish. My raw squat has increased at the same rate as my wrapped squat which indicates otherwise... I usually only wrap when I absolutely need it, or on test/comp days.

I find that all wraps do is support you in the hole so you aren't really straining as hard at that point and you get a little bit of elastic recoil to get you on the way, you still have to push the weight out and they certainly don't lift the weight for you.

I get maybe 5-10kg extra with loose wraps.

Yes wraps provide rebound in the hole, but there is another benfit to using knee wraps. I remember wookie posting about this, hopefully he will chime in.

wraps essentially changing what is normally the weakest lever in the lift (knee joint) to the hip joint. so essentially you can put more load through the hip joint.

thisis one of the reasons some get bigger wraps carreyover - depends what levers god gave you.

Yeah, the link Steak posted ought to be mandatory reading. You've summed it up in a nutshell.

For me, I don't wrap very tight, and I always wrap my own knees. I'd guess I get 10kg out of them, but the most important thing for me, is they're there for injury prevention. Last night I put wraps on at 250k, and that's about as high as I'm willing to squat these days without wraps. Could I do more? Sure. But there is a certain security that comes from having that tightness in the knees, which allows me to really push myself.

That's one of the reasons why I'm disappointed the IPF have classified raw lifting as being belt only with neoprene sleeves. I think the USAPL or one of the single ply feds in the USA allowed knee wraps to be classified as raw, and I can see the wisdom in that.

If you've had any significant knee injury as most guys have, then wraps might be the difference between you competing or not. Squats in the 320-360k+ region without wraps are just far less likely to happen in sleeves. It changes the dynamic of the squat away from the usual equipped stance and forces guys into a more oly lifting style squat. Danny Nemani seems to be doing this well, and I don't think he'll have many challengers in NZ if he keeps hitting around 310 without wraps.

Raw being no suit

raw as in

raw dawg

I am sure some of them were wearing suits, especially the guy squatting in the monolift

No, none of them were wearing suits. I made this video, and all of these were from raw competitions.

If you have a question about any squat in particular, I can refer you to the exact competition, date, and lifter, and confirm that it was done without a suit.

Wraps are considered raw in many Eastern European competitions, as well as many American comps. They do add some pounds, but nothing like a suit.
