Spectator donation will be run similar to that at the auckland champs with a donation box. The reason for this is we compare our sport to that of bodybuilding were it can cost $50 for an evening show. I wont exactly be standing at the door forcing people to pay.

Cant afford $5?

The top strength athletes in the country will be on show. Definitley a small price to pay.

Good value I would say. Just because other competitions do not charge spectators doesnt mean we should not put a value on our product.

I think i will leave it there for today

youd do well to step down off your high horse and listen to the people who you represent and those who you may represent in the future....

financially sustainable

bro...the CBC comp cost $15 entry and included "prizes" with good value eg Tubs / sacks of protein, creatine, trophies, medals and certs and a BBQ and free drinks for the crowd of spectators and the 30 lifters and it was a break even exercise....Even the lifters pack had a free pass to Waiwera Hot Pools, bottled water, snacks etc...just saying that its not that hard to do...sheesh we did it and we are just a itty bitty 2 bob gym with a squat rack and not a cent to our name

Im not comparing our little comp with the mighty APA at all ...and all its wonderful IPF rules and regs but it would be kinda cool to get a bit more for your buck. The NIs is $75 entry and is one of my lifters 8th comp this year...it soon adds up if you incl travel etc to other comps like the Nats ($135 entry with a banquet you had to pay for eevn if you couldnt attend)

I think I will leave it there for today

Mate the only reason there is a feed after this comp is because I recommended it and i did so because of the feedback from the CBC Comp. I did listen the feedback given from the CBC comp and we talked about it at last Sundays committe meeting.

The funny thing is is that both yourself and the APA wont the best for Powerlifting. We just have different philosophies of doing it.

I think it would be a benefit if you (steak) were on the APA committe because atm there is no opposing views on teh APA metings. I dont think its constructive picking holes on internet forums where all the big decisions are made via committe meetings. Maybe something for u to think about next year when we elect comittee members?

I understand that the total costs of powerlifting comps stacks up but thats life. I just forked out $7000 of my own money for the Junior Worlds.

Im bored so I'll play a little longer

I cant see where Im "opposing" anyones views ...more Im looking for value for $ as Im sure you'll find many are...its tough times out there dude

Its these forums where you gathered your bright idea of a social gathering and BBQ so I wouldn't be too quick to discount the value of them. You'd be surprised to know who lurks here with us all too. Not forgetting also that this is a very powerful tool for reaching out to people for support' date=' promotion and networking in general. The great thing about NZBB from a PL point of view is that unlike the PH forum (which I'm a proud supporter of) its not completely biased towards IPF or any fed at all. This can be helpful in getting a "more rounded" idea of what people want or expect rather than always doing what you've always done or worse doing what the "regime" expects....touchy that I know, but often tradition gets in the way of progress.

yeah mate. When I said opposing views I didnt mean anything bad. As you mention we need peopel to question the tradition or else it does (and has) got in the way of progress, otherwise we just get people blowing smoke up theri own arse.

I agree that the forums have their purpose in getting a gauge of the feeling of the powerlifting community but as i said teh only way (at this stage) to act on that is to be part of a/the committee. that is where change happens (or lack of it) and the reason why i joined and the reason why i recommended you to join. because it is a place where you can influence and have a voice for the people who think things shoould be run differently.

and the people will speak with their feet too

most of my frustration comes from the lack of grass roots support. never have I been involved in a sport (and Ive been involved in many from Surf Lifesaving to rugby etc) that has so little in the way of a grass roots or novice program...in fact the dumping of the 3 novice rule was IMHO a step backwards. Imagine if rugby had no Ripper Rugby or kids grades...I bet we wouldnt be the rugby nation with the player depth we have now...man even fishing (the sport you take up to get away from the wife and kids  ) has long ago realised that the future of the sport lies in the younger generations and has introduced Kids Fishing with roadshows, school programs and the like

Like an banana in a bowl of oranges it doesnt take long for the mould to spread....seperate the oranges from the bananas and all the fruit remains good. Like wise with the "regime" Let it live on in its traditional way and its fine to do what it has always done... but Im not sure its ready for a banana like me

Keep me in the loop though bro

well said bro $5 is peanuts and if someones not willing to fork that out then there is no point in them going in the first place.
