just comparison of sources of protein available at supermarkets/online (for WPC) ie available to everyone and their relative protein/energy and monetary cost/protein.

i know better prices do exist for some things (especially WPC), but the prices i used are generally the best prices you can expect to find in at least one supermarket, on a weekly basis

made the list on my computer for my own comparison, but could be useful to someone else so might as well share.

feel free to add info for other foods

If you are working it out on relative cost then it should be done on per 100g not kJ cause you don't pay on the energy value but the weight

The kJ comparison doesn't show the cost - it shows how much energy in this food comes from protein (versus carbs or fats). Personally, I've always worked in calories, not kJ, but it comes to the same thing. Essentially it's just showing how "pure" a source of protein is. And you couldn't work that out per 100g because foods like boiled chicken would have a high water content, whereas 100g of protein powder would not.

Interesting comparison, hhhh1. There are a few surprises in there. I can understand that the small amount of carbs in whey might make it a less pure protein source than chicken, but I wouldn't have picked that tuna had more "other calories" than either.

i should have added that that was for tuna in oil with some oil drained. i will add the info for tuna in brine (yuck) next time i buy some, as it definately provides significantly less energy for the same amount of protein
