how about the thousands of other non bodybuilding 37 year old's that died from heart attacks? yes he prob did die from too many diuretics, clen,DNP ect ect but there are plenty of cases where its just bad luck.

Or the thousands that are still juicing well past 50-60 that are still going strong. Steroids will always get a bad rep anytime a bodybuilder dies regardless of what killed them. BodyBuilder dies in car crash, muscles too big bro couldnt turn the wheel fast enough, steroids are bad!. Will always be people out there who disagree, and a lot of the time its the same people who are out drinking every weekend and popping pills and have no idea whats in them.

 f*ck. their dropping like flies. makes you think.

RIP

Can you explain who "they are" are?

a few weeks ago the aussie pro dropped dead from something similar

As has been pointed out, Luke and Art died from different things. Luke died on the operating table, so hardly similar.

And as has also been pointed out, I did realise people would instantly be thinking "roids".

I read this on another forum:

Jumping to any conclusion without facts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the things that has hurt bodybuilding is the speculation when some individual dies at an age that is not by statistic appropriate.

Across the world there are many High School Athletes each year who suffer exactly the same fate. Because they are not professional athletes a small article may appear in a local paper and that is it. These deaths are rarely reported unless they take place in a public spectacle of some sort.

When Rob Sager died at 29 years old the rumor mills flowed with gossip and little to no facts. Sager's family had an incredible history of heart disease and many in his family had died of heart disease at very young ages.

The Mentzer Brothers were a similar case and in spite of their success in their field they both presented numerous other risk factors based on genetics and on lifestyle choices that increased their risk for cardiac problems.

One must also look at the long list of individuals who date back into the late 1960's and 1970's that are still alive and healthy and were competing at a time when the only HD supplements involved pills or needles.

Another poster made one of the best points in that one of the hardest things that can be done to the body is the extreme cutting right before competitions to get that last little shred of definition. Also, competitions back in the late 1960's and earlier 1970's had higher body fat levels which still remained in the healthy zone of safety.

These days competitors are competing for large cash rewards, and as a result, they either by choice or coercion take risks that over time catch up with them. The money in the sport of Bodybuilding is now concentrated in product endorsements. A pro can earn through his wins many millions of dollars on each endorsement contract he has. The problem is that this money, and the way the promoters work, clouds judgment because the health of the competitor becomes secondary to the "big business" aspects.

Back in the 1950's, bodybuilders had food and a limited number of steroids they could get to make the mass they needed to win. Twenty years later, two Brothers nearly owned the sport, and had built a financial empire including supplements of dubious value, a publishing empire, and a huge line of equipment that had their name attached to it. Competition came into the picture, and this forced improvements in everything simply because the bodybuilder was always looking for the best mousetrap to get that title so he himself could make the money.

In the new century we have a second test bed for the drugs that have gotten so much blame.

Where many bodybuilders have in fact lost their lives at young ages, the other "test group" being HIV patients are not losing their lives and they are not dying of all of the things attributed to these same drugs in bodybuilding.

We are not seeing adenocarcinoma cancer in statistically abnormal numbers in HIV patients, and we are not seeing cardiovascular disease in abnormal amounts either as this population also ages that is attributable to these drugs. This is in spite of prescribed dosages of the same items used in bodybuilding circles sometimes in excess of what professional bodybuilders would need.

In the HIV population, the killers are the side effects of the HIV drugs themselves and not the legal steroids these patients are given under Rx.

The most important thing we can do here is to wait until all of the evidence is presented and the post mortem examination and reports are completed. The full reports may in fact take several months because surprisingly family history and it's gathering takes the most time. Don't even go absolutely by the preliminary reports. Wait for the final reports.
