Interesting Read On Traps

As my best and most developed body part, for once I actually think I can have some input here.

But it's the same shit you always get told..... basic and heavy, nothing goes past rack pulls, heavy deads and shrugs. If you can't build traps with those exercises then accept that your going to stay a pencil neck.

The best way I find to shrug is on the smith machine standing in front of the bar, (behind your legs) Use wraps for max grip and work your way up until your just getting movement. This is one exercise where you don't a massive rom (not saying don't get a full contraction) but do 6-7 sets of heavy rack pulls where there is barely any movement and tell me you don't feel sick the next day!

for me traps are a waste of time as it does very little for the bodybuilders look. who wants ski slopes and narrow shoulders :pfft: dont belive me then just look around and look at all the skinny in the gym all they do is traps and biceps and then to have the wannabes strongmen doing traps to

I think because high Traps are immediately visible under clothing they do look good. You are right tho, the bigger you make them the wider you have to make you shoulders or you just look silly. And the wider you make your shoulders the bigger you have to make you Legs.

It's a balancing act and us novice bodybuilders usually go to some extreme on a muscle group before realising we are out or proportion and then make an adjustment.

On a side note: This is why it's pretty rude to take the piss out of someone who is building a body, for having some lagging bodypart or some extreme bodypart. They are on a path to some goal and you can't always keep yourself in good symmetry throughout your progression. Skinny guys with traps and biceps are prolly just responding well in those areas, give them time and skinny guys can look better than some of us (some of us :-))

Ummm yeah what he said.... perhaps those guys don't even train traps they just happen to respond. Plus man... what bodybuilder doesn't want developed traps... That's the look of power right there! I am fairly fortunate mine grow without too much direct work but if they needed it I would do it.
