what would you consider 'respectable lifts'

Yes i know very ambiguous question without talking about weight, supps, years training, age ect, but what kind of weight do you consider to be respectable for each of the 3 lifts (male)

i mean like a weight that would have you watching someone if they had this much loaded up on the bar kinda thing......lol

my opinion (no disrespect at all to anyone that isn't quite there (seriously))

For me these numbers will get me looking:

140 bench

180 squat

220 dead

all raw of course

Thoughts?

 My goals for the next 2 years, so I'd agree with you there (better not take me that long though :pfft: )

Also have to consider bodyweight, something like 1.5xbw bench, 2xbw squat, 2.5xbw dead. Obviously easier the lighter you are, but impressive no matter what. Just more impressive the heavier you are

like i said earlier this is just talking about weight itself (not the weight of the person) but yes body weight is a big factor

Yup pretty much agree here as well as what phed says about the bw factor. Chuck in a 100kg standing press and you can say your fairly strong overall.

On the net... anything in my ballpark (not too far behind/ahead of myself). No disrespect to anyone reading this, but I find it hard to relate to the numbers anonymous people list unless they're around what I'm doing or have recently done (when you don't see them lift in person). It's been the same since I was lifting a lot less too. For me personally, anyway :)

Although I do occasionally like to read the logs from guys who are well ahead of me (HarryB, Soundsgood), gives a bit of motivation to keep going

In person though, I just love watching people give it heaps - whether it's a chick/guy squatting bodyweight, or a monster doing 3x bodyweight - as long as it's all left in the rack, that's the sorta training/competing I like to watch

yeah for sure, gota start at the bottom and work up

It wasn't a dig at you or anyone mate..... I too am at the bottom working up  my numbers are piss weak too.... but my point is the stronger you get the less you respect smaller numbers thats how it has been working for me in my mind maybe everyone is different?

so the respectable side gets bigger

pretty good call on these numbers for the general gym goer, its when i'd tend to have a look.

but since i started strength training proper 13months ago expectations have def risen alot, i was dreaming to do a 180/220 squat/dead then but now after been able to rep with it i dont think much of it nor find it that respectable in powerlifting circles however if ur 60kgs doin it, awesome.......but 3 plates on the bench i reakons good goer

I'm gona go out on a limb here and say that what most people would consider "respectable" is what they themselves lift or more. Just Sayin. So this is actually a good question... these strength standards give good reference points for 1RMs. Most lifts in the "advanced"/"elite range" would get me looking.

180 bench

220 squat

280 dead

Yeah that's the juiced version not the naturally skinny white guy version. I don't think I could even hit any of those numbers naturally (maybe the deadlift). I know guys that can do those naturally, lucky buggers got good genetics so yeah those numbers are impressive... just not really within reach for the average man though. :)

Fair call was only taking the piss :pfft: ... however

My "natural stats" - going back quite a few years now .... my body has aged some since then

240 bench for reps

210 squat for reps .. never been much of a squater (bodybuilders typically have shit technique)

220 dead for reps

Interesting how people tend to think enhanced lifting gives you a massive advantage. Its a state of mind perhaps that gives you a small boost - but if you are not strong AAS is not going to have a dramatic impact on that unless you put the time in under the bar. I benched a shit load more natural than jacked. (Granted my shoulders are fucked now and I'd be doing more were it not for that).

Without over thinking it, I'd always stop and look at anyone:

Squatting 180+

Benching 140+

Deadlifting 180+

Not overly impressive numbers by PLing standards I know, but worth a few seconds to critique & see if there are any learning points for me or the lifter.

Personally for myself I'd see respectable (raw) lifts at:

300/200/300

I am much the same as you Nate, if someone is doing good reps with those weights then I will stop and have a look. If someone goes up a plate and does nice reps with that then I am impressed. Relatively speaking.

Mind you always find guys doing something different really heavy with good form impressive. Like a guy doing 100k lying tricep extensions or something like that.
