Height 184.5cm, Arm span 187cm

your a bright young chap phedder, can you find some ratios for what is normal ect? tried to find a calculator but had no luck

You sparked my interest :lol: Had a quick scan and this seems to be the best one;

RELIABILITY OF ARM SPAN AND HEIGHT MEASURES

The means of the first and second measurements of height

were 168.81 cm (SD = 10.17) and 168.88 cm (SD = 10.19),

respectively. The mean absolute difference was 0.31 cm (SD =

0.50), the median absolute difference was 0.20 cm, and the

technical error of measurement was 0.42 cm. The test-retest

reliability of height was r = .998.

The means of the first and second arm span measurements

were 170.57 cm (SD = 10.92) and 170.43 cm (SD = 10.52),

respectively. The mean absolute difference was 1.04 cm (SD =

1.35), and the median absolute difference was 0.50 cm. All differences between the two measurements were within 5 cm of

each other except for two extreme outliers of 6.5 cm and 8 cm.

The technical error of measurement was 1.20 cm, and the

test-retest reliability of arm span was r = .988.

Seems most peoples arm spans are very close to their height, this study showed a mean of ~2cm longer arm span than height.

There were only 83 subjects, average age of 41 and 69% of subjects were female. So take from it what you will, but it seems its normal to have a slightly longer arm span than your height, but a difference greater than 5cm would appear to be rare.

Hard to say if it's a good or a bad thing for strength, I'd think long arms would help in the deadlift, but hinder pressing movements. As you've said though, definitely makes them harder to fill out aesthetically

i must be fucked with a 10.5 cm difference.

Seems we just have a bunch of outliers in this thread, freaks with your 10cm+ difference :pfft:

Questions for TWL, Monkey Man, and Pyro; Do you think your deadlift is dis-proportionally stronger than your other lifts, or your pressing movements weaker?

I rarely do deads because of an old lower back injury and when I do I keep the weight light and up reps, so would be hard to make a comparison. Oddly I have no issues doing squats.

Not sure bro, I don't do deads. But me and my brother both train are legs and chest the same amount. I've got a slightly better squat than him and he has a better bench (his arms are proportionate). We have similar genes, my bench may be effected by longer arms. Not 100% sure.

my arm span is likely close to my height. I haven't got broad shoulders, which kind of sucks for bodybuilding.

I'm about the same height as my dad but he's got a good 5 cm on me in the arm span. I remember sometime I'd help out milking and he could easily hold the rails on both sides of the shed but I could only grip one side.. lol

I'll measure mine a bit later on and report back. :)
