per day or per week?

it will depend on your bodyweight

mine at the mo is 3300

Im guessing you weigh 110+ kg?

I'm 95kg and slowly cutting at between 3000 and 3500 calories (I don't strictly count)

Why would you assume he weighs 110kg+? Although given the results of this poll so far, most here seem to use pretty drastic diets

Farrk man, do you have an awesome metabolism or do you workout 5 times a week/a couple cardio sessions? Im 79kg now, cutting on around 2100. But I may do less physical exercise than you (3 gyms a week, 2 cricket trainings)

And I ask if he's 110+ for similar reasons (maybe he weighs less but does more exercise?)

I do weights 4 times a week but I also walk for probably 1.5hours a day just getting around, wouldn't call myself overly active. Same as most students really + the weight sessions. I didn't think my intake was anything out of the ordinary, most formulas like Harris-Benedict and Katch-Mcardle put my maintenance around 3500 which I'd agree with from experience. I am aiming for a reasonably slow weight loss so my strength doesn't suffer, and I like eating too much

And out of complete interest Phedder, whats your opinion on eating (possibly) shit food before bed? (IIFYM) Seen a few of your posts and you seem to know your stuff

Depends on what that shit food is and what your goal is. I'm assuming (given the thread) you're referring to in a weight loss situation. If its either eating something crap before bed to hit your targets, or not eat anything and fail to meet your targets then I'd eat whatever you have to. I wouldn't advocate IIFYM simply because it ignores health aspects, but if your diet is alright (healthy) through the rest of the day and you really feel like having some fried chicken and gravy before bed once in a while then go for it.

I'll check out those calorie formulas. Im talking bulking or cutting, I mean throughout my entire last bulk I followed IIFYM, though I was pretty damn healthy around 80% of the time, I just always ate a lot before bed (purposely saving a few extra calories til the end of the day-eating pancakes and french toast  ) Still had great strength gains/didn't gain TOO much fat. I LOVE food so much, I think im a 100 kg man living in an 80kg man's body-well I used to be fat so maybe my stomach still wants me to eat/love food.

Anyway, from what i've studied it seems that some people think you should eat just 'whatever' before bed to meet your caloric intake for the day, although some say eating a bunch of, for example, sugar, stunts your growth hormone (though many nutritionist like Alan Aragon seem to think this is bs)

I don't have a set amount of calories. I gradually reduce as my cut progresses.

I try and lose around 1lb week while maintaining 100% strength and watching myself change in the mirror

i use different markers that help me discern my body fat like

-branch bicep vein starts to come in around 11%

-ab vascularity really starts to come in sub 10%

-pec seperation as i start getting below 10%

etc etc
