Getting a bf% test in Chch

I'm based in Chch but don't belong to any gym. Anyone know any gyms that you can just turn up and get a bodyfat test done? Also how long does it take, how naked do you have to get, and how much does it cost?

Mate I doubt any gym will let you in just for a BF test, in saying that, most gyms have a week's free trial pass so you could use that to get in then ask a PT to do it. They might charge you a standard rate for a session - say $50 - or they might not.

A 7 site BF test(generally the most accurate) takes 10-15mins assuming each site is measured twice(and they should be) - shirt off but you can keep your shorts on, although your mid-thigh is one sight that is measured.

You used to be able to get Hydrastatic Weighing done at Canterbury Uni for $60. This is where they dunk you underwater, the most accurate way to assess how much fat you have. Unfortunately since the quake this service isn't available.

Most accurate measure is a DEXA sacan but is quite pricey, underwater weighing is alright followed by bioelectrical impedence and calliper tests. Calliper tests tend to underestimate lean individuals so keep that in mind. You can always post us a picture, there are enough people on here with years of experience who could tell you what bf% you are within a % or so.

Ask at any gym how much it will cost for a weigh & measure. They can only say no. If you have a membership, it will most likely be free of charge.

I decided not to get a test done and just post pics at the end of my cut. But I bought some cheap as calipers anyway just to have fun with, doing a 3 site test over and over again it shows me as 5% bodyfat lol which I won't be. I will be somewhere around 10% I think

Cool. I bought some cheap calipers too and also had a hard time measuring ;-) I find a good rule of thumb is to have someone else measure you & that same person each time using the same equipment & site method.

Give Kent Gibson a call at Fitness Canterbury. I see him just for BF tests, as do a few other guys. There is a charge but it ain't much.

I think the Sports Science centre might be all up and running again so this might be all go? Anyone know?
