Protein grams per day for natural lifter?

General concensus seems to be about 1 gram per pound of bw or 2.2 grams per kg. BUT WHY, do som many people (espcially on US forums) say you should get about 1.5 - 2 per pound?

Thats so much!

I mean, im 180 and get 180-that seems like a lot of protein to me.

f*ck, getting 300 a day for my bodyweight seems crazy to me, unless you're on the juice I guess...

How much do you guys take?

I guess you have to look at the big picture. If you eat fuckall in the way of carbs (cos some dick convinced you Atkins was a great Mr Olympia! :pfft: ) then you have to either add more fat or protein to make up the calories.

If you eat a balanced diet (in the traditional sense) you wont need such huge amounts of protein.

At the end of the day I look at what I can do to meet my needs in the most cost effective way possible, and one thing I know is carbs are a damn sight cheaper than quality proteins.

Obviously views on the topic are quite mixed , will start with 90g a day and go from there...30 in the morn , 30 lunch , 30 tea

At 82kg I doubt you'd want less than 120g day.

I know its cliche but I'd tend to increase from 3 meals a day to at least 5. Just my opinion tho.

exactly. Even 120 isnt enough IMO. ATLEAST 180g if you want to grow...thats 1 gram per lbs or BW for you. Personally id go even more but its your body, your decision

You guys will probably hate me for this..

I'm cutting at the moment and eat around 400g protein per day (400P/180C/60F) and i'm 83kg at the moment.. apparently thats 4.8x BW.

Its not cheap, but i saw my greatest results when i just simply ate an intense amount of protein

For a full breakdown you can take a look in here

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthrea ... t745411093

Its really not very expensive at all to get in a simple 150g protein per day

400g chicken breast 4$

1 litre milk 1.75$

2scoops of protein 1$

+random sources

thats over 150g for 6.75$.. half the price of a large combo @ maccas

More protein will make your body work harder to process mate (takes more energy to do) - so you are right but I guarantee you your body is not using anywhere near 4.8gx

If I am cutting I'll typically add more protein in in order to get past a sticking point.

400/180/10 = 62%/28%/10% ... very similar to what I have seen guys following Laynes plans - brings you in nice and easy and the cut is more sustainable and quicker to maintain.

For a pre cut I prefer 50/25/25 (%) - but will tweak every now and then 60/15/25 in order to bump the process when I need to to break through. I prefer to use fats as they work more efficiently to mobilise other fats in your body = quicker results.

Some guys prefer to use more carbs ... But the Protein you can almost categorise on its own as excess is likely to be passed through before it is utilised. Too much excess can be the difference between 8 and 4% bf though ... to much of a good thing isn't always good.

So very similar - but both correct.

I am bulking at the mo currently 67kgs. I consume an average of 250-300 gram of protein a day. Not that I aim to have 4x BW protein but if I try to eat 5000 cals I naturally happen to get that much protein. My macros would usually be carbs 500gms protein 300gms fat 200gms. In my opinion you should be getting at least 200 protein but I am still a noob so feel free to disregard my $2
