Refeed days

I do

Why do they benefit you? Is it for mental reassons (cravings) or to supply your body with more energy since its been so depleted all week (or month-whatever)

Both, but more for the physiological/hormonal benefit. I don't diet or restrict myself enough to get bad cravings :pfft:

If you're someone who does get bad cravings they can be necessary for sanity and continuing with the diet, instead of giving it in all together. Although under this circumstance, I'd refer to them as cheat days instead of refeeds. In my view, cheat days are for sanity, refeeds serve a more targeted/physiological purpose.

Refeeds are especially important in low carb diets to refill glycogen stores and raise leptin levels. They can be just what's needed for some to help bust through a weight loss plateau, or just keep fat burning at a desirable level.

If you're interested in a bit of reading on the subjects of Refeeds and Leptin, Lyle Macdonald, Martin Berkhan, and Alan Aragon have all written some great articles. Here and here are good places to start. You should be able to find plenty more if you wish :)
