Truth on Mince

Hey everyone!

I went out today and bought a stack load of mince because it was really cheap compared with chicken. How do you guys rate mince? How fatty is it? Is it good for muscle building? A mate said eating mince is just the same as going out and eating pies

It aint prem, thats for sure. Where in NZ you from? How much does chicken breast go for these days?

Akl, chicken breast fluctuates between 10.99 to 23$ a kilo depending on where you shop and if it's on special or not, I always buy up large if breasts are around the 11-12$ mark

apparently frying up 'cheap fatty' mince and then running it under hot water in a siev will cut the fat calories down to the equivelent of low fat mince.then chuck it back in the pan to fry off any water and good to go...........

yep i do this and it def seems a lot leaner (and a fuckload dryer and rougher to eat)

yeah mince u pay for what you get

cheaper optitions loaded with more fat, gristle, sinew, connective tissue etc to pack up the weight.

just make a good nutro plan with a variety of sources of protein, then u wnt be needing a heap of chick breast each day

lentils, beans, almonds, eggs, tuna, salmon tins, fresh fish, protein powders. rump steak is normally on special now and then

chick thigh... more fat, still cheaper tho normally

A few things people don't know about mince. To keep protein content higher, the manufacturer will add soy protein isolate, so when tested, protein % is correct. Also, a lot of water is added as the mince is being ground. Helps bulk up and increase profit. As an exercise some time, keep heating the mince for a while after it has browned. The "Fat" seems to evaporate.

It's not hard to drain it, once it is cooking.

Premium mince is nearly 2.5x the price of the more budget one, yet the budget one only has a little more fat in it.

Buy premium, for sure, but for the price, it is cheaper to go with the cheaper one and spend 30 seconds draining it.

That is what I do, and get over twice the amount. I am lean.

Fatties are fat because they eat more than just fatty mince. Sugars are their deathly choice.

Yup, love my mince. I'd love to be able to chow down on fillet steak 3x per day, but budgets exist for a reason. Probably the only source of protein that's cheaper would be Pam's tuna.

If you're really worried about the fat content, don't just drain it, wash it.
