IIFYM vs. Clean/Dirty bulk

What train of thought do you take when it comes to the food you're eating?

IIFYM (If it fits your macros) where you can eat anything you want so long as you're eating enough of each macro nutrient vs. Clean/Dirty bulking where the source/quality of food matters (e.g. a chicken breast > a big mac)

I've been a big believer in the IIFYM approach for a while now, but have recently started eating cleaner to save a wee bit of money.

IIFYM is something i've followed for the last few months when bulking.

My take on it was that it doesn't actually matter where you get your sources of carbs/protein/fats in terms of body composition-as long as you can function properly during the day/at training etc.

But realistically, even though it won't directly effect your body composition, eating shit food all the time will likely make you hungry more constantly, possibly leading to over eating and you might not get as much out of your workouts because of the lack of 'fuel' you get from food sources such as oats/brown rice/chicken breast etc.

So for me personally, I ate 'clean' 90% of the time and didn't worry about having 6-8 (or whatever) small meals a day with protein and carbs in each meal. I ate when I was hungry and at optimal times (for me) during the day-such as at breakfast/pre workout/post workout and then before I went to bed (because I love food at night time..Who doesn't!?)

I just made sure I hit my daily macros and calories while eating 'clean' most of the time-as a personal choice

So you can eat whatever you want but you really do have to eat some good nutritious food as well, otherwise you won't have the energy to workout and you'll likely feel shit a lot of the time and your body wont be as healthy!

Thats my take on it anyway, IIFYM has helped me a shit-load, takes a lot of stress away from dieting and makes it fun.

Plus cheat meals become in-existant if you fit them in your macros.

Mean :D

funny you mention that, eating clean costs me more than eating junk/crappy food...

What are you eating? I wish I could eat fast food super cheap. I'm eating mostly eggs/brown rice/mine/tuna at the moment and am eating roughly 4200kcal for $12/day

i easily spend over a hundy buks on days i dont make my feedz, thats eating clean, so i try not to have too many buy my lunch days hahah

$100 a day?! Haha wow thats crazy, I feel guilty when I go and drop $20 on McD's/KFC

I know what you mean about clean calories being tough to take in. My 'clean' lunch is apprx 1000kcal and it's tough to get down, largely because it's rather plain + super filling. In contrast 1000kcal of takeaways goes down easy as pie

Oh I didn't mean it was hard to eat bro, I just mean't you can eat some shit food every so often-if fitted into your macros, and it shouldn't effect body comp.

I LOVE TO EAT! And can easily eat a 1000 cal clean meal...But im a bit of an endo and only wight 82kg (at 16-18% bodyfat) so if I eat too much I become a fat shit

Clean all the way. Makes it easier come comp time and you feel better for it.

funny you mention that, eating clean costs me more than eating junk/crappy food...

Do some research chap and you will soon work out it's cheaper to eat clean.

Size 16 Chook always on sale at Pak n Save $5 equals two good feeds, Rice $15 for 5kg, Kumara $bugger all (grow your own)...........the list goes on. Have a good hunt you find it

hmm you're most likely correct, I guess it's because I buy for 2-4 weeks worth of stuff at a time that makes it seem to cost a lot

i dont like to do it thou but some days at work are long and dont have time to do lunch
