Harbour Fitness Queen street No-more!!!....

So I went to the gym this morning and saw the signage above the acess from the streets had been removed, thought it was strange but shrugged it of. But as I took the lifts up I was greeted, with a bit of a surprise, by a bunch of security guards and discovered that Harbour Fitness Queen Street is no more....

All the old HF staff (not including management it seems) arrived to work this morning and was greeted with an eviction notice. They seem to have had no prior knowledge and was asked to leave immediately. Supposedly the 'top' management staff on the floor above had not been in to work either yesterday or today. City Fitness staff and management (first time I have herd of them, I believe they have a gym in New Market) were present as well as those big and dangerous looking :pfft: :pfft: security guards who were standing around inside the gym.

It seems someone has not been paying their bills...

When you go in, City Fitness explains they’ve taken over, and offer you a contract at the same rate you were paying Harbour. I have no idea about the people without contracts who pay for a few months at a time? as I pay weekly. I was told to go to the bank and block my direct debit for Harbour fitness. Also, a good way to get members quick and fast. Smart move City Fitness

This weekend they’ll be closing the gym down, pulling out all of Harbour’s equipment, and installing their own. Hopefully they’ll see the reviews about the old gym and take them on board.

Great job Harbour fitness for informing both your staff and members.

I am now a new member of City Fitness :) Ball is now in your court!

lol, almost saw this one coming a mile away. The rents and costs must have been sky high not to mention the costs of fitout and equipment. It wasn't a massively large area and at 10.99-14.99 a week memberships they would have needed a huge membership to make any profit. Rumours about the owner not paying bills extend to other business interests non-gym related also.

Well the good thing for existing HF members is that City Fitness is seriously cashed up(owned by Mark Smith, billionaire founder of Goodlife Fitness chain in Canada) so you can expect them to do things when they say they will. CF has a goal of 30 clubs before end of next yr - they're just starting to make a real presence in NZ now. Goor or bad, you can't ignore them

Good to know Lowfat. Thanks.

I had a brainwave this morning. CityFitness Newmarket is kinda near where I live. I called them up and told them how I was one of the hand-me-down people from the Queen St. take over. I asked if I could now use the Newmarket gym given that I'm now a CF member.

Answer: Yes

So I checked it out today after work. It's at least 5 times bigger than Queen St. Heaps of room. Pretty good.

All in all, a silver lining that I'm pretty chuffed about :D

Be paitient, new gear is coming, CF have a warehouse full of gear originating from the States which is were Moorhouse got all it's new stuff last year. Some of it is used, but you wouldn't pick it. From what I understand, Harbour Fitness was a monkey of an outfit.

Sweet, can not wait to see it.

Management have come across as the monkey's of the outfit but many of the staff e.g. PTs and receptionists were spot on, glad to see some of them may be sticking around.
