I think it's a great idea. But there's already a Nutrition and Supplements forum - do you think we should make another one just for reviews?

I'm a bit wary of creating too many forums just yet. It's better to have many posts in fewer forums, than fewer posts in many forums, if you know what I mean... If you spread the posts too thinly, the board doesn't look so busy!

But if it looks like we're getting lots of supp reviews, and they're overcrowding the Nutrition & Supplements forum, I'll definitely create their own space for them.

(On that note, I've just removed the Teen forum as no-one had ever used it. I'll put it back if we suddenly get a wave of teens arriving...)

I agree, a supplement review page would be kinda handy. There are ALOT of supplements out there and it would be helpful to read about what results someone had with the supplements before you spend your hard earned cash.

why not just make a sticky thread in the supplement section where people can post reviews

When i first read your post i thought, yeah good idea, however it would pose a few problems when the thread starts to get long. People using the search feature wont be able to single out a particular product as it will reference the whole thread.

Good idea but i think as the thread got larger that it would become irratatingly cumbersome to trudge through the thread looking for a specific product.

Only my $0.02 though.

You're right, Growth - you'd need each review (or actually, each supplement) to be in its own thread so you can search for it. That's why Recipes have got their own forum. I've seen other boards just start one thread for it, and it just doesn't work when it's 28 pages long and still growing, and the recipe you want is somewhere in the middle... :D

IMO, the fewer forums you have, the better. Otherwise you end up with people putting reviews in the Nutrition forum, or a thread that starts out a question turns into a review... etc etc.

Having said that, I'm happy to create a new forum for reviews if that's what everyone wants - but if I do, what do we use the Nutrition & Supplements forum for? How do you see the two forums working together? What's the difference between the two?

This is a good discussion. Members' suggestions are always welcomed - it's your site, after all (well, within reason :P)

To me the two forums are very different.

The review forum is a place for you to post your own personal review on a product. Perhaps give it a rating, comment on its cost effectiveness, qualty, your own personal gains on it. Its a single post, by a single person, on their own personal experience with it. There is no mass discussions, no reply to the review. Its a simple cut and dry single post review on a product.

The nutrition & supplement forum is where discussions take place. Where people ask for help or critique of there diets etc. There would be less, or idealy no discussions about how a product went for someone because now it would be alot easier to just check the reviews. The nutrition & supplements forum would discuss things like where do you get a cheap product, talk about the latest supplements, the newest nutritional techniques etc.

From where i see it, the two forums are distinctively different, and i think just by the numbers of people asking "what results did you have with product X" that not only will you have alot of posts in the review forum but also it will clean up the nutrition & supplements forum, leaving it narrower, more concise range of topics.

As always just my opinion.

And the people said, "Let there be a Supplements Review forum!", and lo - there was a Supplements Review forum.

And the Admin said unto the people, "Go forth and post heaps, eh!"

And the people saw that it was good (I hope).

lol

I think one thread per product would be good.

I'd like to hear both pros AND cons of the product, so it's a balanced review.

Be as detailed as you can, and if you've had experience with other similar products to compare it to, so much the better.

I dunno - can anyone think of anything else?

Still no posts  Okay im going to start posting some reviews. Just one more thing Pseudonym, say for protein powders, do you want all protein powders in one thread?, or do you want each brand of protein poweder in one thread?

Yeah so basically do you want seperate threads of different brands or put all brands in the same thread?

I would say by brand, rather than by category.

That way, if people want to see reviews about protein products generally, they can just search the Review forum for "protein", and everything should come up.

Alternatively, if they're after a specific product, they won't get other product reviews interrupting the thread.

But that's just my opinion - other ideas are welcomed! :)
