Advice to down that ghastly Creatine powder!

If you guys are like me and literally fear downing that teaspoon of creatine that sticks to the inside of your mouth no matter how much water you consume I got some friendly advice that works for me :)

All ya need is a bottle of your favorite soft drink :D

Now I'm no fan of soft drink at all but that's all I seemed to have handy at the time, the bottle had been open and was almost flat but not just quite.

Anyways I thought stuff it and shoved that nasty crystal sand in my mouth followed by a skull of pepsi max and wow it went down easy.

The fizzy kinda lifts the creatine up from your tounge and fizzes up with it making the creatine not want to stay down.

Anyways hope it helps someone, definately helped me lol.

I think it really does depend on your creatine, Ryno. Some I've had has been really fine and dissolves easily, and others have been like sand and doesn't dissolve at all in cold water. And yeah, that's when you get that nasty bitter taste too.

What brand were you using?

Naa DAA is tasty! add some lemon to that and its like a chaser to your nasty bcaas. All creatine is a bit like that ryno. Take it with less water, so you can knock it back faster. I drink it with grapefruit juice in the morn or blend it in a post work out shake to hide it. 8)

Try some creatine Tri-Malate then get back to me about how your bcaas taste. My internal muscles put on mass overnight trying to keep that shit down :puke:

Pseudonym the brand is Inner Armour Micronized (lol) Creatine.

Chemo I havnt had a good run mixing it with liquid then drinking just due to the constant sandy taste feel. But I will try Agent's advice of course.

Of course at the end of the its all about stop being a pussy and down that S!%#

so I find just downing the teaspoon in the mouth followed by a quick swag of any liquid which takes only a matter of seconds compared to a ghastly full glass of the crap lol.

Yeah I had that brand before, wasnt that bad from memory? Seriously though, I can't recommend enough disolving it in warm / semi hot water!

micronized or not it will take FOREVER to disolve in cold water, but just let your hot tap run a bit then poor it over your creatine in the glass, give it 2 stirs and hey presto!

Also once I started doing it this way I seemed to be getting more from my creatine. As in, even though I had obviously upped my hydration when taking creatine (the old swallow and rinse way) I needed to increase my water intake still further once warm watering it as I got the old dry horrors a couple day after starting the warm water method.

The other thing I tried (back before I got diabetes of course) was about 30 mins after drinking my creatine, I'd spike my blood sugars by drinking a dextrose powder solution. Or try and time things ultimatley so that I took the creatine 30 mins approx before a protein smoothy. I had read a study that discussed the best way to maximise the uptake of creatine. Which I think concluded that it was beneficial to take simple carbs at around 20&30&40 mins after consuming the dissolved powder but even more beneficial to take a half and half (I think) combination of simple carbs AND complex carbs. Ie my interpretation, dextrose and oats in my smoothy.

There honestly was some science to this. I beleive they took 3 groups of similar athletes, gave one group creatine and nothing after. One group creatine and sugar / dextrose solution after (think it was 20/30/40 mins after) and the last group some form of complex carbs along with the dextrose solution. Dextrose alone did have a maked increase in creatine muscle absobsion over the first group, but not as much as the third dextrose & carbs group. Also the groups performance gains were recorded with the same results.

The thinking in the end was along the lines of, taking creatine with (at the same time as) an insulin spiker (pwo, etc) will not give optimum results as our bodies readjust and lower our blood glucose levels quite quickly. And by the time we take creatine into the blood stream (20-30 mins after consuming it) we have already missed "the spike". By taking the dextrose 20mins later we recieve the initial "spike" and by consuming the carbs we maintain it for longer. Giving the creatine a longer biological window of opportunity to be absorbed.

Oh also there may have also been a complex carb only group, but dont remember. Im sure though the result was sugar & complex was the winner!

Hence my method. There was obviously much more criteria for the study but would be a massive post if I tried to regurgatate it all here.

Anyway, made sense to me and now I try and use those principles somewhat when taking creatine. It seems to work for me (but either way I'm one of the lucky ones who really gets a benefit when using creatine. Unlike many of those who I hear dont really see much improvment or strength increase when taking it).

And dont slate me if I got anything wrong please, I have a crap memory and read all this quite a while ago.

Very interesting. Can't say I've ever tried dissolving it in warm water (I've always just tolerated the gritty taste) but I might just give it a go now. Cheers, Nemesis.
