I was just watching a documenatry on arm wrestling in the US the other day. Some of those guys were unreal and the champ at the time was popping guys arms twice his size. ( Although he eventually lost the title to a monster but only just) Surprising its not a bigger sport with kiwis .

Its no diff to boxing or wrestling really, 2 guys against each other to see whos the best. Takes skill as well as power and its one sport you can see a little fella beat the bigger guys cause ya cant hide behind ya muscle. Its real like a st fight just not as brutal lol.

so can you tell me what the risks are arm wrestling?

surely its not as bad as everyone is saying... there are probably hundreds of arm wrestles go down every weekend across NZ. if there was that many acc claims from arm wrestling itd be on the news....

so what muscles/tendons are at risk and how do u prevent these from snapping while arm wrestling...

also please explain the different techniques and their strengths and weaknesses

Hey guys, there will always be risk of injury when doing anything physical at this amount of intensity, just like weight lifting or any other power sport. But it IS the technique that will prevent most injuries. i know its still early days but there has yet to be one serious injury at the trainings with my Club due to proper technique being taught. I have broken arms, and seen broken arms happen at tournaments that i have held tho. Maiinly due to stubborn guys that come thinking that they know best only because of the fact that they are bigger than i am, and they dont listen to me trying to tell them they are pulling completely wrong. 99% of the armbreaks on the net are due to really bad technique. The most common mistake (Right handed battle for eg.) is people tend to throw their Right shoulder forward past thier hand with their upper body turned sideways (like Megaman vs Magnus) so with their entire body turned to the left with shoulder forward, elbow is solid to the pad, and the opponent gripping the hand and pulling in the complete opposite angle ( the guy just put himself into an armbar submission move) This is where the elbow pops or arm snaps! So once the guy has put himself into this armbar with all the pressure going through his elbow joint in a straight sideways angle, he pushes himself through the motion of snapping his own arm in a armbar he set himself into. Man that was a long explaination! :) sorry. Watch Megaman vs Magnus,or any other armbreak vid on youtube and u will see this exact thing happen! So my goal is to teach people to pull using their muscle instead of loading up the joint with sideways pressure. We are a friendly bunch of guys and would love for anybody interested in having sum mean fun armwrestles to come! I will be on IAMTV on the 3rd of September explaining most of what i just said and much more, (not sure how much they will edit out for the tv tho:) )

It's because people who have no prior training or any clue end up in a bad position referred to in the arm wrestling world as the arm break position and instead of giving up they keep going. It's a position where the leverage disperses force through the humerus, the upper bone of the arm which in turn snaps due to the torque that's placed on it. It usually results in a spiral break one of the worst breaks you can get although once it's healed the bone should be stronger than it was before.

This is it in the picture.

Techniques- the main techniques are either Hook, or Top roll. Hooking attacks the bulk muscle of the opponents arm mainly bicep, and top rolling attacks the opponents hand/forearm.

We train for hours injury free, but DAMN you feel it the next few days! :) The trick is to pull with your entire body, thats why i rate technique over power, a guy with power and no technique will come using only this arm to battle you with, where the weaker guy will use his entire body to beat you.

Hope these comments help at all?.
