WHY WON'T YOU EAT!!?

Hey guys, whats up with people who say they cant put on weight, or let me rephrase that-those who don't enjoy eating! Yeah I get you have to consume more calories than your body currently requires in order to gain weight, but I thought that'd be an enjoyable experience! I'm currently bulking and LOVE eating an excess of calories, I even eat fibourous carbs still and drink plenty of water just so I feel more full and don't go overboard with my eating!

Thoughts?

Because.... get this... Some people just aren't that interested in food once their stomach is full it stops tasting good and produces discomfort due to the stomach being over full. I understand that some people have a stronger drive to eat and they are usually people who tend to have weight issues.

178cm, 19 years old. Start of bulk (4 months ago) I was 74kg around 12% bf, now im 81kg prob around 16-18% bf.

I eat about 3200-3500 calories a day, I could eat a lot more but im sure I would put a lot more unwanted fat on

So it would be safe to say you're not eating to the point of being uncomfortable? I love smashing back the food too, but occasionally at the end of my 8 hour feeding window, approx. 4000cals can sit a tad uncomfortably  Wouldn't even want to try TWLs half kg of chicken and 4 cups of rice to finish the day

yes but you are saying 'why cant you gain weight' ect your only 81kg you don't need to eat f*ck all to be to that size (if your refering to dudes who are 70kg yes i agree) the only reason i have hit plateaus in my training is learning to constantly eat more, i think i'm eating heaps at the time but when i'm ten kg heavier i look back and think yeah i wasn't really eating that much...its the hardest part of bodybuilding period.

Oh right I get you, its the (constant) upping of calories. Does you hunger not increase too much as you get bigger?

This is actually a pretty interesting thread... it does become a lot harder to eat the more you grow, or should I say I find that to be the case. To the point where a lot of guys who have been training for a long time and have a decent amount of muscle mass really struggle to eat enough to continue gaining. I found that as a 78k teen I could eat everything and anything all day long. Now as a 115k 39 year old I could quite happily go all day on a couple of meals.

Plus it doesn't take as many cals to stay around 115 as it did to get here.... certain things can be done to help stimulate your appetite, I find a little bit of cardio keeps things ticking along and of course once you start trying to get leaner your appetite starts to climb.

But as TWL says, eating becomes very mechanical after a while and quite a chore. I am happy to just sit down and get my food in. Bodybuilding ruined food for enjoyment lol

It's different body types. An ecto will have to eat shitloads to gain any weight and it is hard for them to eat heaps so that is a real chore. An endo on the other hand doesn't have to eat that much to gain weight and for the most part enjoys taking in extra calories

Wow over 3000 cals and you put on a bunch of fat?-very interesting, at 97 kg I would think thatd be a maintenance calorie amount, but as you said 'bodytypes' change everything.

I tried going by the book which is about 4000 cals for me if i wanted to bulk, as soon as i did that i put on roughly 1kg a week so have backed it right down, it depends on how fat you are prepared to get and it may have something to do with post comp rebound

And a shit load of that 1kg would prob be fat right? Since you're already pretty big im assuming you wouldn't be able to put anywhere near that much muscle on in a month let alone a week

Yes mostly fat, thats why i backed off, but that shows it depends on your body type.

Some people just aren't that interested in food once their stomach is full it stops tasting good and produces discomfort due to the stomach being over full.

^ This.

I've got a mate who just CANNOT put on weight. Everyone tells him you've just got to force it, or build up and if he wants to gain he needs more food. He's definately tried, but he's always complaining that he feels sick when over eating and often vomits.

I feel bad for the guy because he does try, but it's just not working out for him. I guess some people literally just can't do it.

Personally i've never had a problem with eating. If anything i probably eat too much, so it's a good thing i hit the gym otherwise i would probably be overweight pretty quick.

Has he tried using more calorie dense foods? I'm a big fan of adding olive oil to shakes, and it always goes over my salads or roast veges.

Don't think so, and it's not a bad idea. The guy is a classic endo so will basically take any calories he can get.

I'll suggest it next time we chat :D
