Hey guys,

Just wondering what a good post workout supplement is?

I have been looking on punch and shotgun but I do get rather confused with all the jargon they say in them..

I am wanting something that can help with recovery and nothing that will mess me around with sleeping.

From time to time I take Jack3d for a bit of a pick me up before training and also take Ice when I have the $$.

Any ideas on good supplements in general I should be taking?

Thanks guys!

if you specifically looking for a post work out suppliment then i would recommend cytomax performance drink, it is pretty good as far as helping with recovery, isolites, electrolytes and keep you going,(your body recovery) not good if you looking for creatine sort of product. I'm running on a very tight schedule and this always let me be fully switched on after a grueling workout and a long afternoon at work, so might be worth a try.

I recently found some very low priced protein in Newtown New world i think i got it at $39 for a 900g bag which is really good value for money. and now i just order from their website, cost a few dollars more for shipping but thats fine, a little more money for a little more convenience  haha

per 30g serving it has:

23.9g of protein

1.8g of carbs

2.16g of fat

the only downside i find is it doesnt taste the greatest with water but with milk its fine, and with flavoured milk its even better :) haha

What's wrong with real food post workout?

People seem to think supps are the answer to everything when all they really need to do is eat properly.

nothing wrong with real food post workout, however, the kafuffle about liquid food postwork out is protein synthesis is especially sensitive to nutrients for a few hours following a workout. (its raised for much longer, but a lot more closer to workout)

whole foods miss the boat due to the time it takes to digest.

however, most of the studies looking at protein timing around workouts used people in a fasted state, which people rarely are. The effects of a postworkout drink when you have already had a few meals for the day is much less, though still worth doing IMO

Do you think some supplement full of filler is going to help you more than a shake or food?

I honestly believe far to many people rely on supps and get far to scientific when it comes to Bodybuilding and nutrition. I've said it many times and will say it again "Supplements are exactly that" they only supplement a solid diet. If your diet isn't bang on your just wasting your money.

Don't think I was discussing anything to do with protein shakes having fillers vs whole foods.

I agree though, food is number one.... In my view I pretty much class protien as food, its just easier than bringing a steak to nibble on while training.

Fair call after re-reading your post a few times I realized I miss understood what you were trying to say. Humble appologises

However I do stand by my comments, far too many people think supps are the answer.

I'd drop some whey post work out then eat a hour later.

You could eat immediately after, nothing wrong with that but I go for whey cause it just that bit faster digesting.

Weener lad, you're so old school haha never seen pics of you but you probably come in shredded all the time 'cause you've got the old school ain't nothing but hard work mentality

Hi PD

I wouldn't say I'm old school. I just get frustrated at people thinking supps are the golden egg that will make up for a shit diet/training. First make sure your diet is spot on then train like a maniac then add supplements.

yep i do that to protein shake with dextrose and malto in it str8 after a workout and bout an hour later have a meal.

After s full on workout the body will be wanting to suck up any food it kan get its hands on what better than to have a shake thats more instant the normal food also it will help stop muscle breakdown and it will start the recovery process that mch faster than food will.

food is best but supplements and food is better than just food or just supplements on there own.
