Hack Squats

i promise this is the last thread i will post for a while in this section lol.

Anyway.. i love hack squats and i find they obliterate my quads far more than conventional squats, want some opinions on using it as a staple (at least just for a few months) vs back squats.

I get massive back pumps from BB squats (and just about everything else) which ultimately hinders my ability to grind those last heavy sets out (tech issue?)

When i was a noob i made fantastic gains using only leg press so before i get castrated some thoughts?

I think that as a temporary change they are a great substitute AND.. not everyone is suited to back squatting all the time. It's all down to what you can put your all into. I find sometimes some very productive exercises become a real grind to push through week after week so I will change to something else so that when I hit them again I am excited about it not dreading it!

Yeah man for sure, maybe even if i rotate between hacks and bb each weak or something.

I can also fail a lot more safely on my top sets than i can with a bb (not as easy to get back up tho lol) i find with back squats that i get a huge amount of hammy activation and close stance or not thats where ends up firing and ultimately growing, i have strecth marks on my adductors but not my quads :(

Exactly... I mean if they aren't productive for your goals then why do them?

I will give an exercise a good go but if it isn't doing what I want then I don't continue just because I am supposed to do it.

Personally I get a lot of development with squats but I am structurally suited to them. They wouldn't however suffice to give me all the development I feel I need so I don't hesitate to do everything else I can think of to make my quads grow.

i have the worst possible build for squats a short heavy torso, and long legs lol.

Im giving training twice a day ago so ill see how i go (also assuming hacks will be easier on the cns than bb squats allowing me to pull it off.)

Yeah man lot easier on your recovery..

How tall are you? 5 foot?

Great advice Harry find what works and stick with it . At some point it may max out, if u can detect that and change again u will make good gains.

I don't squat over 140kg (done 180 3 times in my life) but I stiff-legged dead 160kg. Then freakazoid Soundsgood comes along and is different again, heavy as squatter and big results.

Harry probably has the largest legs on the planet (until he shows us otherwise) :-)

am at Aucks airport on the way to Sydney in an hour can't wait to c wat the hotel gym is like

I am very average in the leg dept.. more balance than anything. Well that's what I tell myself. It seems I can squat ok cos I am a midget lol

I have a love/hate relationship with hack squats. I can feel them isolating my quads a lot more than regular squats, but they make my knees ache (and not in a good way).

Have you tried taking a really wide stance on back squats, and going as deep as you can? Basically sumo squats. You need to be flexible enough in the hip flexors, but for me it targets the quads nicely.

Yeah i feel ya bro, on my warm up i locked my knees out to quick and thought id broken something but after thoroughly warming up it went away. do you get it throughout the whole motion or at the bottom or top?

I get the same pain in the bottom position so I go slow into the bottom position and don't sit in it like I would have done before my legs started to fall to pieces!

Love hack squats. I'd use them if I had.. Mate at the end of the day it's what grows your legs. I find squats are the most fun quad exercise. If you think leg extensions gave you phenomenal development, stick with it.. Some might disagree though...
