State of strength in teens

Im with you Mac, big strong and powerful. Carl Hayman is the best tight head in the world he is a huge man and very very strong IMO he could put about 10 kgs on and be the best ever, he is technically veryvery good, and very fit so if he can maintain his fitness with the extra size good by any loosehead prop in the world

Back to my original post though i do think that the strength of our college age sports people needs to get better, imagine if they were at par with other countries strength wise we will be far better for it.

my weight routine currently is pretty pathetic, i do boxing and most people at the boxing gym don't lift

i hit weights around once or twice a week

i:

bench 60kg

squat 100kg

dont deadlift

im 17 and weight 70-75kg i reckon its pretty decent although i would like to be able to bench 80kg atleast...

im leaning towards this guys physique, but he has huge shoulders and small traps :shifty:

yea man a good target to aim for is to atleast bench your own weight. for you it can be a goal u work torwards. but if your going to gain some muscle dont let your other bodyparts fall behind because then it just looks stupid, imo.

Sheer weights alone wont have significant carryover for boxing bro.

Hell, I went through a few boxing sessions as part of my mma fix and my shoulders were just totally hammered (Cause they get stiff from benching/pressing etc ) and then the boxing takes the crap out of them.

I reckon weights are good, but mix it up lots with plyometric work and strong man type GPP ... (think farmers walk, overhead medicine ball throws, weighted dips, box jumps, sled dragging, car pushing etc etc).. dont forget your speed work..

speed work on the weights that is, not on the bags alone....I think reccomended parameters are 8sets of 3 reps at 50 - 60% of your 1 RM bench.. also you should be hitting those 3 reps UNDER 3 secs.

If you arent, obviously its too heavy, drop the weight and try again.

Keep rest to a minimum... 15 - 30 secs.

Dont neglect upper back and trap work.. th ey power your punches.

You dont have to go over the top with deadlifts as they will cane your cns system, but add them in for core stability...your whole midsection will thicken and strenghten bro .

Hang Cleans.. these are excellent for explosive power as well. .. learn form well and vary your loading parameters to make sure your not frying yourself again.

Good luck, fight hard.

neemia tialata was a teen not so long ago..and i remember stories doing the rounds in wgton that he was benching 160ish when he was 16/17

"PE" in not an important aspect of your education these days unless you go to a school with a strong sporting credo, the country is more interested in making sure you take politically correct languages etc.

and as a side to this, I am sure you used to have to do home ec sorta stuff to learn how to cook things...now if you cant even cook a simple meal...surely your nutrition and then overall fitness suffers?

Yea but, they are stories and altho they may be true i dont go on info unless ther is proof..

Also i dont go on lift weights but more on the ratio between your lifts and your body weight. People that say they bench like 120 yes that is decent but when ur 120 kgs its only your own body weight which isnt tht special.. please post your thoughts on this..
