Muscle repair after operation

Im in hospital next week having surgery which will mean a pretty big cut through my left lat. I'm worried the scar tissue is going to really hinder my return to form once I'm fully recovered in a few months? I'm thinking about some deep tissue massage once it heals but wonder if you guys have any other advice or experiance to share?

Kinda pissed to be honest, as I've been working my back pretty hard for the past few months and been seeing some good gains made. Pffft!

Thanks for any ideas you might be able to offer.

I wish there was good news i could give you but unfortunately scar tissue will occur. The only thing i can recommend is that you have a good physio and hopefully she does a good job with your rehab. As for the deep tissue massage, i think the physio will help with that once you start rehab.

Thanks Darkman, yeah I'm resigned to the fact I'm gonna have a decent lump of celoid tissue there. Just hoping I can do something to minimise the impact it's going to have on my lifting.

Oh well, I'll just play the cards I'm dealt I guess. We all have injuries of some sort to train around I suppose.

Talk to the doc who will be doing the operation to see if there is a way that s/he can still do it without causing to much damage to your training, such as cutting the same direction as the muscle. I know that if they go straight through the muscle then it will never be the same again. It will always be a piont of weakness. Just my 2 cents worth anyway. but good luck.

yeah cheers Andre. I've spoken to the surgeon about this briefly and made him aware of how important my lats are to my training and obviously to my boxing and bjj. Unfortunatley the surgery is potentialy quite invasive as they may remove the top of one of my lungs  and this would mean a rather large hole being opened up on me either way.

I keep thinking maybe I'm focused on the wrong thing :pfft:

like I said, I'll just have to work harder and overcome the problem. cheers
