Kudos meter - some clarifications

Hey mods,

just a question on the kudos meter. Does the level of someone's kudos affect their kudos feedback levels?

E.g., pumpupthejam has 0 kudos (lol), so if he gives negative feedback to someone does it count as much as if a more respected person did?

Obvious reason for the question is that the system would kinda suck if pumper can go around negging people, when no one really gives a shit what he thinks of others.

just sayin.

Not at this stage. But you make a good point, and that might be something we end up doing. Introducing kudos was always a case of "let's try it and see what happens, then adjust as needed."

What we want is a way to recognise good quality posts. We don't want a popularity contest where people get kudos for a smart-arse one-liner. Equally, we want people to feel free to give negative kudos to posts they find immature, offensive, or detracting from the topic.

So the plan now is to see how people start using it once the novelty wears off, and then make any changes that are needed to acheive the goals above.

Anyway, to answer the other part of your question, here's some more info on how the system works at the moment...

4 points for every "Like" in the last 30 days

3 points for "Likes" up to 60 days

2 points for "Likes" up to 90 days

1 point for every "Like" older than that.

The points are tallied up, and you're given a kudos level based on where you stand in relation to the person with the highest score. So if you see yourself drop back down a level (as happened to me the other day :() you havn't necessarily been negged. It could be that the bar has been raised. :D

You can't give kudos to yourself, or to the same person within 24 hours.

Newly registered users can't give kudos (but existing users can, so it still pays to be nice to newbies!)

There is no kudos in The Playground - for obvious reasons!

Sorry jam face - i cant neg you as you have no kudos so I just get an error message. I think they removed the kudos meter for you in case we accidentally caused a black hole by negging you into oblivion.

Keep the squabbling in the Playground, children. :naughty:

You shouldn't need to hit the Thumbs-up to see the Thumbs-down button. That's very odd. You could try Ctrl+F5 to force a proper refresh though (or "Cmd (Apple) + Shift + R" if you're using Firefox on a Mac).

Negged for attempting to diffusing a potentially entertaining series of insults
