As a response to a number of "What are da best supplement threads"

And recently http://www.nzbodybuilding.co.nz/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=12466&p=263899#p263899

I thought with the huge barrage of new supplements and fads we face day to day as natural or supraphysiological trainee's, it may be good to rather than list the number of good supplements out there, but list the dud supplements that aren't worth our time or hard earned dollars.

My belief is that there is a time and a place for the basics, creatine, whey, bcaas, multivits etc.

But what about those that have no or very little place in our regimes.

Have a cheaper more effective alternative.

Are just too expensive to justify its use.

Those that over promise & under deliver.

This includes brands and prohormones

If you could also state why they are not worth it, that would be great

same with a lot/some/most mass gainers

expensive when you look at what goes in them. loads dex,maltodex... some fats and vits, mins and ya cheap and nasty proteins

ive brought 1 tub of 5kg or so of revolution mass gainer. was around $125 so not too bad, but crap. lumpy and didnt taste to flash.

far cheaper and better to make ur own with foods and stuff

buy a good quality protein powder and dextrose seperatly

binn inn got dex 6kg = $16.00

even cheaper at the home brew show

20kg bag/sack!!

super pump

because its an over priced creatine with some dextrose and other goodies.

Yeah nice one, same with Musclepharm Assault, the Dextrose makes it, and you can get that for way cheaper.

oh i remember taking Musclepharm Assault, rubbish supplement.the dextrose and creatine supplements are the worst IMHO.people can be so stupid!

the thing that cracks me up the most is the 15 diff kinds of creatine in them lol!

DHEA

Over-rated and of little use for male BBs.

....as explained simply on Bodybuilding.Com

What about DHEA as a “muscle builder” in healthy young men?

DHEA often gets marketed as a “muscle builder” to men. As a muscle building supplement in young healthy men, DHEA is essentially worthless, and high intakes may in fact be counter–productive to gaining muscle as high doses also cause an increase in estrogen and the effects on testosterone are minimal. Studies have been conflicting in this area at best, and most “real world” users report no improvements in strength, muscle mass, etc from using DHEA. So, for healthy young men with normal DHEA levels, it’s a bust as a “muscle builder” due to the fact it converts to testosterone poorly and raises estrogens levels when used at high doses.

I think you have to look at supplements for what their worth. The companies market, and people hope, the supplements have a steriod effect. I think basic ingredients are overlooked. i.e. Superpump is no better, if not worse, than a strong coffee, dextrose, BCAA power and Creatine.

Also food is king. Multi Vitamins give you expensive piss. Since i started eating close to 500g to 1kg of Vegetables a day ive dodged colds and flus which have spread round the office.

Id spend my money on roids and get the real thing rather than throw my money away on 'legal' shit in a fancy tub. I think if you cant get it from fonterra or Nutratech/eatme your wasting your cash.

Peace

Ive heard most DHEA doses are to small to have any effect. I think 400mg a day was tested in active males which on showed small increases in test levels. I have used DHEA with no effect - the cap size was 40mg - 10 caps to have any effect? fuk off

mmm that is totally possible. I actually cut coffee out of the equation and it was still twitching up a storm. It might be semi-related to tiredness to. I must admit, it's far less intense now.. but I have the lower lid twitch from time to time.

I should probs just give up the SPM, but I'm sort of reluctant to do so, cause I'm having much better workouts lol. .. I'll just let people think i'm sifty, with my winky eye lol.

^ haha, sounds creepy as! I got the same thing when I used to drink coffee all day. Now I only have one directly before a workout if I'm feeling flat. Bloody effective when your system isn't accustomed to it.

As for sh*t products... Aussie Bodies protein. Was the first ever protein I used - cheap, bad taste, mixes terribly, ineffective made me fat. Haha. When I moved to Bioplex (still cheap yeah) the difference was so noticeable.

Hydroxycut!!! I knew muscletech was hype but I thought the thermo would at least work!

Never tried it due to the cost but I thought, like you that a themo would be on par with other thermos. Not the case?

My thoughts exactly. Now I'm not very experienced in using thermo's but these didn't do shit at all. I'd expected the first few times to experience some sorts of sweats but nada
