Having just written what feels like a small novel, I can't be arsed writing a clever intro as well. So... Here it is. Fill your boots.

Changing of the guard

It’s the nature of forums that people come and go according to the demands placed on them by life outside the forums (apparently it does exist!).

Those who read his journal will know that Optimass has decided to focus on things other than the forum for a bit. He’s been a great addition to mod team, and he’s been here since 2007, so he’s certainly entitled to a bit of a break. We’ll miss him though, and his 120-something-kilo frame leaves a big hole. Looking forward to your return, big fella.

On the bright side, we also have a new addition to the mod team – Phedder. He doesn’t know it, but we’ve had our eye on him for months (in fact, Opti was running a stakeout beside his house). What we found was a member who kept his cool even in the middle of intense debates, and showed a natural talent for diffusing conflict. In short, consistently good moderator qualities. So Phedder – welcome to the team!

Advertising and signature links

As the forum continues to grow, so do the costs involved in running it. To meet those costs, this site needs to attract paying advertisers. Recently I’ve been talking a lot to potential advertisers, and a number have made it clear they don't see the point in paying for advertising while other companies get it for free in their signatures. It’s a fair point. We already have a no-advertising policy in the forum posts, so we’re extending that to include signatures and avatars as well.

I know this is going to affect a few of you, so it wasn’t a decision I made lightly. After talking to the mods and other senior forum members, here’s the plan:

1) We’re going to block all external links in signatures. If your signature links to a workout journal on this site, that's an internal link, and you won’t be affected at all. I’ll send out a more detailed email over the weekend to those who will be affected.

2) If you have a Directory listing with us, you can advertise all your contact details there, and link to that. (Directory listings also appear on every page on the site, so you’ll probably get better exposure there anyway.)

3) A few of you run blogs elsewhere, and they're good. I didn’t want to lose the links to these non-commercial sites. So I’ve created a Blog option which will show up in your profile panel. And of course, you’ve still got the Website and Facebook options there too.

4) No more company logos in avatars, please.

The idea is to make NZBodybuilding.co.nz a more attractive place for paying advertisers – and that gives us freedom to make it a more attractive place for you. (On that note, we’ve got a big new feature launching soon... it’s very cool, but I can’t say any more just yet! :grin:)

Be what you want to be

It’s a cheesy headline, but it’s true. With the plague influx of powerlifters that have been swarming welcomed here recently, the old “Natural Bodybuilder / Enhanced Bodybuilder” tags don’t seem to cut it anymore. So we added a few others to the mix. Now you can be a

- Bodybuilder

- Gym junkie

- Body sculptor

- Powerlifter

- Strongman

- Powerbuilder (for those who swing both ways :grin:)

To pick your tag, go to Forums > User Control Panel > Profile – and be what you want to be!

Kudos to you

Yep, it’s a reputation system. But with a twist... The kudos is weighted to reward the most recent posts more than older posts. The old ones still count, but it means you just have to keep posting good stuff. Bugger, eh?

Here’s how it works...

You give kudos through the “I like this” button. Your vote will contribute to that person’s kudos score with a value depending on its age. The person’s total kudos is then translated into a five-level ranking and it shows up on his/her profile panel. At the end of each month, the posts which have accumulated most kudos become contenders for the Post of the Month prize.

Phew! I’m sick of typing, so I think that’ll do for now. As I hinted above, we’ve got another big feature coming soon, so watch this space!

Could possibly add some more tags to do with other sports then. Rugby, MMA etc, Or just have a space where you can input what you are specifically.
