Thinking about competing..

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

So one of my friends has been bugging me for ages about competing in powerlifting. Given it a bit of thought but still not too sure so I thought I'd see what your opinion is..

A little about myself...

Female, 20 years old

169cm tall, weigh roughly about 65kg

Cartilage problem in knees - stops me squatting below parallel..

Currently cutting in preparation for a bodybuilding comp in September

Squat: 90x3

Bench: 25x6 (dumbbells, never really done much bar)

Deadlifts: 70x3 - I know they're lacking a bit, still trying to build up my wrist/grip strength as it is very weak

If you guys could give me some input that would be great! :)

Welcome!

Not being able to squat below parallel causes a big issue for competing in a 3-lift, but your DB bench is impressive. Do you have any idea what you can do with a BB, bringing the bar right down to the chest? You'd be able to compete in bench, or a push n' pull which is bench and deadlift. We have the National bench champs in Dunedin on the 29th of October, and there's a push n' pull being held in Balclutha on the 19th of November. If you're interested in competing the best thing for you to do is just get involved, find out about more events you might be able to go along to and watch or compete in and see what it's all about
