minimum wage increase good or bad?

school doesn't mean shit. When I was in high school I had the attention span of a goldfish and my ability to retain information learnt was crap. I think alot of students brains aren't fully developed or at the same stage as others as far as high school goes. for example, I had to sit some tests last year one of which was maths to about 6 form level. I had no recollection and don't think I was even able to be taught and retain all the formulas needed for fraction problems and algebra etc. I attended 5x 60 mintue sessions with a 7th form student from Kristin college and learnt more math in 5 hours than what I would have or could have learnt while I was at school.

Also people who leave or 'drop out' if they have good attitude then IMO they are better off in alot if cases, common sense, people skills and alot of important life skills aren't really present in high school

Sorry what do you do for a living?

As little as possible most of the time

LMFAO

But what about those big businesses that pay minimum wage because thats all they have to and no matter how many times you ask for a pay raise they just say no.

They don't care how many years of study you have done thats all they will pay. You may as well be unqualified at a supermarket.

Jesus what a display of ignorance!

Do you fuckers not understand the point of a minimum wage!? It is supposed to represent the minimum amount a full time person should be paid to be able to afford to live, feed a family etc. It rises because of inflation, not because they are working harder.

To the person who asked if their wage should go up too - yes it should. Your wage should increase each year to represent inflation and there are guidelines for this. If it doesn't, grow some balls and ask for a pay rise.

And to all you who think that these people are just lazy - they are not dole bludgers, they are actually trying to work, and a minimum wage that is liveable is more motivation than working in a job and still not being able to feed your kids.

Interesting thread ... I think this will ultimately back fire on Labour - doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out it simply not sustainable for business ... I was kind of expecting them to come out with something like this as up until now as the have only been critical of National with no credible back up ideas of their own. The reality is - if they were in control, they would have had to reneg on many of the policies they campaigned on in order to keep the country in check. How do you budget and account for an Earthquake at the start of your term in office - let alone 2. They have spent too much time in chambers with the greens IMO :smoke:

Don't you think Phil Goff and Don Brash are the most uncharismatic leaders ever to lead national and labour ...

Here is one actually reasonable thing to say on the matter. Yes, I think this actually is the question that needs to be asked. Not questions like worth or hardwork..., but can business' actually pay this. Problem is, supermarkets and franchises can but don't because they're all about profit, while smaller stores would if they could but may not be able to afford it.

Back in 03 min wage was like $6 for youths, I don't think inflation has gone up 300% since then. Increasing min wage gives employee less incentive to work harder for a pay rise etc that so many people have worked hard for a rise. If you use inflation argument then wages for all employees should increase..
