To be honest it fucks me right off, why should their pay go up for doing nothing?

I'm above minimum wage so do I get a $2 per hour increase too? No.

Close the gap between pay of skilled and non skilled workers because it's too hard for them? Please, get off your ass and get a qualification!

I was on less than $6 an hour at my first job.

Minimum wage is just that, a starting wage, people should then strife to get paid more by upskilling. So many can't be bothered to upskill & just want the minimum wage to be good, so my answer is no, I think it is bad. They should spend the extra money on upskilling people instead of encouraging them to just cruise & expect a good wage.

It makes it tempting to go work in a minimum wage job no stress no training.

Im with you on this my wage goes up f*ck all and they get another $80 week.

If your on mimimum wage and not happy get another job. Get some training. Pisses me off.

I don’t see why people who work in supermarkets/fast food joints, next to no skill level reqired work should get paid $15 an hour.The majority of the people there should have stayed at school maybe worked harder and then maybe they get their high paying job. I understand some people may have had no other option but still its mindless easy arse work and I can talk because IV worked in a supermarket the last 5 years. Wish everyday I stayed at school. :doh:

I don't think school has anything to do with it, trades can be just as good if not better. Plenty of successful businessmen who never went to Uni.

I'm a tradesman and have mates who have completed 4 year degrees who get payed less.

It's really a simple equation. Raise the minimum wage and you raise unemployment.

Employers are not going to get more production out their minimum wage employees so they will just let a few go to balance the books. Gotta love social engineering! Bring back first past the post....

i know experiecned chefs who only get around 15-16 bucks an hour and have 3-4-5 yrs experience

whats the point?

Min wage needs to be kept at a steady amount of f*ck all!

Like $5.50!

as mentioned above... you want more $$$.... go fucking earn it like everyone else has to!! :twisted:

but wouldn't raising the minimum wage increase consumer spending on those people that are likely to spend all of that extra $80pw, therefore higher profits for company's to spend on an that extra 2% increase in min wage employees would counter the increase in unemployment?

But I agree with you all, increasing costs will mean companys will pass the costs onto consumer by increasing the cost of goods, therefore more inflation.

another bad thing is that it would encourage employers to seek older employees, as they tend to work harder and be more responsible etc, so less youth employed.

It's a joke. Will cripple small business. If you are on minimum wage it's because you deserve it, you have no skills and you don't want to. If you want to be paid more work harder and smarter. Giving these people a massive pay increase does not encourage them to do anything other than nothing.

How many of the hard working people get a 2dollar pay increase for doing nothing

The only people who will do well out of this are the liquor stores and the TAB

How do guys get by on that anyway? With the rising cost of living, a min wage increase seems completely acceptable...

What the government needs to do, is get harder on these guys who earn enough yet seem to be getting all sorts of welfare support.
