Looking for a personal trainer and dietician in Wellington

Hi all

I've just joined this forum, which looks great. I'm a 32 year old with a background in competitive road cycling. In the last few years, I've done quite a bit of rowing and swimming. Most recently (for the last 6 months), I've got into weight lifting and am really enjoying it!

I've read quite widely about resistance training and developed my own programmes, but have reached the point where I need the guidance of someone who does this for a job if I want to progress further! My goal is quite general: I'm looking to bulk up and be as fit as I can, but am not into bodybuilding as such. I've got a good level of physical fitness and strength but want to take it to the next level.

Please can someone recommend a good personal trainer and/or dietician in the Wellington region who could assist me? I'm specifically after someone who has experience in weight training (rather than a 'generalist' personal trainer).

Thanks

Mark.

for the dietician, go and get a referal from your doctor. THis will lower the cost or make it free. Sorry you will have to pay for your doctors appt. If you have a good GP they should help with no problems. just my 2c worth anyway.

Public Health Dietitian isn't the go Andre!!! They'll have the basics but he really wants a dietitian with sports interest or a sports nutritionist. Check Academy Providers in ur area http://nzas.org.nz/nzas-nth.aspx?c=64

I know Kath does the Hurricanes nutrition, her website is http://www.food4fuel.co.nz/

As for PT's - try Philly Nuku, he's been in the game forever!

I have the understanding that anyone can call them self a nutritionist as long as they have some training. A dietitian has a lot of education and also should be working on post grad stuff to help keep there knowledge up to date.

I found a web site https://www.dietitians.org.nz/ with the registered dietitians within NZ listed and it does explain that they do deal with people involved in sports. The website also states that you can get a referal from your doctor to help subsidize or make your visit free.

They also have a list of registered dietitians within NZ.

Thanks Nate. Do you have contact details for Philly?

Cheers

Mark.

Philly's at Les Mills Hutt City, altho I see he's not showing up on their website yet.

Des Foo (also Les Mills) has some BB'ing experience. Joe Ulberg's just moved overseas, I understand.

At City Fitness, given you don't want to compete in bb'ing, you could try Carl Hammington - he's great too.

Yes you are correct re: Dietitian vs Nutritionist in terms of protected status of word dietitian vs anyone being able to call tyemselves a nutritionist (vary from a PHD in Human Nutrition to a weekend course in witch doctory!).

However a general purpose Dietitian is not of much use when it comes to Bodybuilding (or any specific sport at advanced/elite level). Many speciallise in medical field (e.g Pediatrics, Renal etc) or even food service management. Not real practical for a serious athlete.

Find a dietitian who has speciallised in sports nutrition (hence Academy Providers list), or if you were elite in any sport you would go further to find the preferred provider for that sport (e.g. NZRFU providers for Rugby, CycleNZ providers etc etc).
