Motivation Help!!!!

Hi all, about four years ago, I managed to drop 25kg and started training for a comp. Then my marriage ended, and I went out partying and drinking etc. So I have piled it all back on plus some. I am finding it really hard to find the motivation. I am a shocking eater, love my chocolate, and drink 2L of coke a day, which I know is wrong, But its sooooo good. I would love to compete in one comp at least. Anyone got any ideas that might give me a good kick up the butt to get me on my way.

Take a photo of you in your bikini, and put it on your fridge, and put next to it put a pic of when you were smaller. Try it, I know people that it has worked and its a fav of those of us who have been to weight wathers. (I used to be a leader, a long time ago).

get a check up at the doctors....

he/she may tell you that you have high BP or a heart condition and that you need to exercise or your going to an early grave!!!

if u wanna compete... STOP eating all the crap and start a healthy balanced diet, and start to exercise!! :nod:

it'll be a long road ahead! START NOW!!

2L of Coke a day?! :shock:

That's 216 grams of sugar a day, just from your Coke alone.

You know those big paper bags with a kilo of sugar? You go through one and half of those each week. If that doesn't shock you, nothing will. :shock:

My suggestion is to fill a 2L bottle with green tea (no added sugar!). Then every time you feel like a Coke, have the green tea instead. It has the added bonus of helping you burn fat and take the edge off your appetite.

I agree with the 'skinny me' piccy - these can be hugely motivating.

Give up the jink food/drink NOW; try to get into the mind set of 'fat food = fat chick'. If you want to be a hot/fit chick, eat the type of foods they eat.

How about make a goal of eating 2 good days in a row - I'm sure you can do that. Then, have a wee treat/cheat...maybe a CAN of coke zero and a small junky snack.

Then go 3 days eating good and then have a cheat.

Then 4 days in a row before a cheat.

Soon, you'll be into a good cycle of clean eating and wont crave the junk anymore. You will feel better for it, your tum will flatten, hips will reduce, butt will shrink and your skin and hair will start to look a lot better.

You will start to feel lighter, and have more energy...then will come the realisation that the junk food/drink makes you feel yucky/sick/puffy/bloated/constipated and you wont want it anymore.

Take measurements (do them 3 x over for accuracy) and jump on the scales every 3 days. Remeasure every 14 days. Set up a spreadsheet to monitor your progress, and keep us posted.

I know with myself I wasnt always in great shape, but its the small steps that help to complete the journey.

here's tough love lady...do a detox..it will be a great shock to the system and help kill the "coke sugar cravings" that you seem to be fueling.

Then from there it's a clean slate..sort your diet,training..so move it to you local health shop for detox advice(would suggest the Herbal one,covers all bases)

I wuldn't recommend a detox - they simply don't work .. there is plenty of contradicting scientiically proven evidence. Could get into the detail but here is some info ... easier to cut and paste - not my own work but you can be the judge. (Not my own material)

You must have heard about detox diet right? That's because dozens of books and hundreds of web sites promote this regimen. But did you know? That this regimen are based on "junk science" rather than a true understanding of how the body works.

Worst of all, extreme diets like the Master Cleanse can cause serious side effects in vulnerable groups. I know some people out there might not believe me and accept this fact if I'm the one who talk about this. So, I'll give you the facts said by the EXPERTS on this matter.

The experts weigh ins on DETOX DIETs

Peter Pressman, MD, an internal medicine specialist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

•The science behind the detox theory is deeply flawed. The body already has multiple systems in place including the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract, that do a perfectly good job of eliminating toxins from the body within hours of consumption.

•There's no evidence at all that any of these approaches augment the body's own mechanisms.

•Detox dieters may report a variety of benefits, but none can be traced to the idea of detoxification. Fewer headaches can be traced to other lifestyle changes such as reduction in alcohol and caffeine intake. Clearer skin can result from improved hydration, and less bloating could be a result of eating less food.

•Some detox dieters report a boost in energy and even a sense of euphoria. The feeling -- also commonly reported by people who are fasting -- is actually a reaction to starvation. It likely evolved as a way to help a person evade threats and locate food.

Convinced yet? You should be. Eat a balanced diet, and move more for lifetime health, instead of 'detoxing' your body

fair enough opinion opti,and good article.. and I don't mean to ruffle any feathers. Ive done a few herbal detox's, one a year past four years, herbal kind, and have not starved myself while doing them..not used as a quick fix or weight loss tool either. and have had positive results..

A 3 page Article in last months Ironman mag

"Detoxification is a term most gym goers striving for gains don't give much thought or attention to. However, cleansing the body will not only boost your metabolism and increase your ability to grow muscle, but it will also enhance the absorption of all the supplements and healthy foods we spend big dollars on year-round, making a detox program something we all should incorporate into our regime if we are looking to maximise preformance"

At the end of the day two opinions never hurt, what works for me doesn't always work for others, no drama's :)

Your Cameron - this is where many nutritional myths are often started - (in mags). The detox industry (as a portion of the whole wellness industry) is worth millions and millions -

I remember seeing a doco on a controlled human test case where by x number of people did a detox and the other group pretty much just followed a balanced plan. bloods were done at intervals through the program ... outcome: the detox group had no advantage over the balanced group - and many of the observations in the article above were reinforced.

I must admit, the notion of following a plan like this and coming out the other end with healthy clean liver and kidney function for example - sounds great - so I can understand the attraction.

The discussions about detoxing never make clear what's being cleaned out, or why that would be important in any way. Living organisms are remarkably good at doing whatever cleaning needs doing, so I'm not quite sure what magical herbal potions -- that just happen to have a decent profit margin -- would add to that.

four years ago, wasn't that long ago. focus on the positive. one you're honest with yourself so that's great. two, like the other poster said YOU have done it before so you can do it again. three, you're not married anymore! lol. sounds like he couldn't handle you looking so fine and sexy hot, that was his problem darl not yours. many husbands/partners are insecure and try and sabotage our journey, keep us down - ugly and fat. you have to realise that you associate looking amazing and hot, with rejection....end of marriage. ive got a similar emotional issue myself!! 2008/2009 I was pumping HOT and got a lot of attention. big sexy muscley bodybuilder i was 'seeing' couldn't handle that I got more attention than him! ........ once you're aware about your emotional 'trigger' - the lightbulb will start flickering. this isn't about losing fat, toning butt and looking super sexy hot (that's the end product). this is about self loving your fat ass how it is now chick (don't worry my ass is a lot fuller at mo too!!) and proving to yourself that YOU can ACHIEVE and YOU are kicking old bad patterns of behaviour out the door and YOU being in CHARGE of your decisions and not letting anyone make you feel like shit. remember it's a process, so gradually wean yourself off the coke - set little goals and then give yourself a big pat on the back when you achieve all these little goals. how many litres of coke 2? a day? this week chick, make it 1 litre a day for the first week. goal achieved? do the goals weekly, then celebrate. another goal could be - do 5 push ups in the morning for one week? it's the feeling of achieving these small goals, which are bricks in building a very solid wall of achievement. write down WHAT DO YOU WANT and close your eyes and imagine how you're gonna feel when you have achieved your goals, what you're gonna look like, being on stage - feel it NOW THEN work your heart and soul out to get there sister!! YOU CAN DO IT! keep me posted.
