Exertion headaches and migrains

Here's is a new and horribly srippling experience for me.

This weekend at the gym I was half way through a 2minute blast out on the crosstrainer (part of my cardio/weights session) and I was hit by a sudden migrain.

I'm not usually prone to headaches at all, let alone migrains. It was very intense and I'm not one to quit so I pushed through (doubled over) to the end of the 2 minutes and then had to lie on the floor.

The migrain petred off into a headache and stuck around for the rest of the day.

The next day I went to the gym for a light session ( no problems) and then jumped in the pool to do some laps. Into the second lap I was hit by ANOTHER migrain. forcing me to sit at the side of the pool and hold my head. (this again eased off into a headache but reoccurred later in the day during a resistance class).

I had a day off yesterday and no headaches at all.

Today I have just attempted to do a hill run and on my second hill got hit by ANOTHER migrain.

I can't believe how bad these are. I would never normally let myself slip on a run but I had to turn around and walk home.

Has anyone ever had these before? I heard that you can take antiinflammatrys for them, but I didn't know if I should go to the doctor first or what.

I am not a stressed out type of person and I have had a full medical about 3 months ago and came out tops in all aspects including blood pressure.

How the heck do these stop, It's really impacting on my workouts and making me a little unhappy :(

Go To The Doctor. Get it sorted, there may be some type of under lying issue that may have turned up. Also if the pain is that bad then you need to get it sorted and dont run through the pain, you can blackout like you did. The doctor can perscribe something to help with the pain and any nausea that you may get, and remember to have a look at yourself. How much are you drinking, have you changed anything in your diet, anything new happening in your life, has the people next door opened a nuclear power plant has has done into meltdown. Are you expecting and not checked??? You body does some strange things when its out of wack??? Just my ideas others will have theres but GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!

Yeah my thoughts to, I just wanted to know if anyone else had experienced it. I'm sure its exersion headaches/migrains. I'm trying to avoid going to the doctor as they just play guessing games, but I'd quite like to see a specialist. I've heard they will do a routine MRI scan anyway.

I drink plenty of water and no changes. not expecting ha.

Trying to look up a specialist in Tauranga.

I really really hope that this is not me!!. I'm terrified of having my wisdom teeth out after I saw what a friend of mine went through (jmax88).

Have just emailed a couple of neurologists to see what the average cost of this is. (expensive I bet).

pretty sure there are a lot worse things it could be than a wisdom tooth, id be hoping its something that simple! mine took 10 mins to get pulled, i didnt feel a thing and i think it cost me 300 or something close to that. i was amazed at how easy and painless it was. of course not everyone is so lucky, like your mate obviously wasnt..

This is what my mum suggested. Mums :) so i should probably go to the cheapest option first.

After you go and get your ?neck put back in then if it happens again and dont forget to put it on ACC. You did it at the ??? playing sports with a mate, anything. Then if hte problem carrys on use the same ACC number (only if it is cheaper) and go to your GP, and then get then to refer you to someone else if you dont like what they have to say. Use the system, thats what it is there for. I should know.... :pfft:

Is it that time of month? It can cause your haemoglobin (the molcule reponsible for transporting oxygen in your blood) to become low and it can cause headaches, especially on exersion.

interesting! coincidently it is.but they started a few days before. could still be tied in. anyway last night (before my skate bail) i took an antiinflammatory before a 12km run and no headache or anything at all!

but may try and kill two birds with one stone and get the doc to look at that today too together with the foot.

Don't bother, Hazel - you're being nice to a Pakistani spammer. :P

If he has a migraine, it's a good thing.

Haha nice :).

I will post what I find out anyway just so it's helpful in case anyone else has the same problem ever.

I dont understand what his intention was as he seemed interested, and how do you know he is a spammer?

Over the years I've got pretty good at sniffing out spammers, rovr4on! Their latest trick is to post reasonably innocent-looking comments, then come back a couple of weeks later and edit them to add the spam links. That way, the mods don't see them, but Google does.

There are a few clues though. In this case, first he says how helpful this topic is. Then he asks a very generic question about what it is. That immediately triggers warning bells - how could he have found it helpful then?

Look at the English - there's often something slightly odd about it. This time he's actually copied the entire topic title into his post - twice, and it's identical, including caps and typos.

So then I look at the IP he's connecting from - sure enough, Pakistan. Taiwan and India are also frequent culprits. Cheap labour, I guess.

Anyway, that's Spammer Identification 101. Now you know what causes my headaches - let's get back to the cause of Hazel's.
