Personally, I was/am more impressed with Phil's results, his goal was to enter the Auckland champs & the Chch champs and to achieve better results than his previous comp attempts, there was no intention to, or thoughts on, or plans in place for, or budget available for Spain, let alone actually qualifying for the event.

His result at the Auckland champs was excellent, and nearly a month later, his result at Chch was just as good, then a few weeks later, after a long international fight in economy class & low budget accomadation, to still be in good enough condition to achieve a 3rd place, after so many weeks trying to maintain comp condition is a real good show.

As for Simon, the way people were carrying on at the Auckland champs, you would have sworn he was the next Jay

I was down in the front area and I could'nt be bothered to turn round to see who the "heckler" group was,.......one accent was definitely not Kiwi,.......could possibly even have been Moe, not sure on that though,.........comments like "thank you, Simon for being here......" & "good of you, Simon for showing us how its done!!" .......

Quite a stoppy young guy :x , I spoke to him in the reception area before the mornings pre-judging.

He was quite offended that my immediate assumption was that he was a spectator,...........and not there as a participant!

To me, he just looked like an tallish blonde guy, with a swimmers or surfers build and a "iffy" fake tan

The surprise for me was Pension,.....massive traps, good chest, decent arms, pretty average quads, barely perceptable hamies and completely non-existant calves,.......and he placed THIRD!!!!!Go figure? :!: :?

From memory, I think there was five in his class

looking at the nabba website results, show only three in his class. so that made him last.

sometimes they through another class in the line up if numbers do not meet three in another. but he is still judged individually.

just like 2guns was thrown in the novice mens class as there where no juniors. (not that he was out of place at all).

if i had of entered in the novice wat placing do u think i would have got? in yr opinion of course?

in my opinion watching at the back of the crowd i would have probally said you would be 2nd.

but i guess it looks different where the judges sit a? keep it up and do more shows leading up to the nationals as you'll only get better.

you'll never hit it aiming at one show. you get better each comp as the muscles seperate more and conditioning gets better.
