hey guys,

so on wednesday I was having a good leg session, and at end of it I thought Id smash out some more leg presses to really hammer myself, so forced out a set of 15 then amped it up another 20kgs and did 25 reps. On last rep I felt something kinda pop in the back of my head, and a headache followed. Next day on thursday I had a very minor dull headache all day and went to the gym for chest, started out on a light set on pecdeck, felt a little odd, then pushed it up to 84kgs and from first rep got a blistering headache, so did about 4 reps before I gave up from the pain. Enroute home stopped off at a medical center where they recommended I goto hospital asap and get some tests done. So got a CT scan, bloods (was on dbol so a bit nervous) and got a lumbar test/spinal tap (worst 15 mins of my life) and results all came back fine thankfully.

On last few reps of leg press I wasn't breathing properly, so went all red etc, which I think was a massive amount of pressure built up around my body which caused it.

Now I'm going to take a week off and hope it doesn't happen again, and if it does I gotta go back and see Dr.

This happened to anyone before? read a few threads online where some people have had a similar experience doing squats and leg presses.

shit that sounds bad i get that feeling sometimes when im going all out on squats you get that feeling off blood rushing to the head due to straining hard out and it can feel like you are going to pass out or something the worst i have ever had is seeing stars for about 30 seconds after a set and my eyeballs feel like they are going to pop takes about 5 minutes to recover before you can do another set sounds like you have taken it past that point bro your b/p could be a bit high must off been one mother off a workout!

Yea that's it man. I tend to get this when am dieting,(the one time :pfft: ) wile I'm trying to move the same load on a calorie deficit. The headache can even hang around when you're not in the gym too. Maybe take it easy next week, and also work on a good flow with your breathing and pressing. you're know when some crazy pressure is going to your head.

Ill often burst blood vessels (petachiae) on my face, ears from heavy squats and have blown my nose out a few times but the "pop" thing sound s a liitle more serious ie tendon, ligament muscle tear sort of thing...the headache could be from nerve entrapment too. get it checked right out.

yeah im bulking at the mo, so def not deficient in anything, eating hard. Just pushed myself too hard I think, without breathing properly in such a compound exercise + higher blood pressure from dbol. Can barely walk from that spinal tap, wish it opon no one. apparently spinal fluid is a sure thing for detecting odd blood in the brain

ive had same thing when doing lat pulldowns and my head is pushing forward and stretching my neck..it was a pinched nerve but it felt like a explosion in my head with a wicked shooting pain and a headache...it then became easier to twinge it when working out in the future..just had to concentrate on my head position

Hey wiggy, how long did the headache last for? And how long did it take before you were able to hit the gym again?

Valsalva headaches

They're quite common. When you hold your breath it causes as increase in interthoracic pressure. Not alot you can do about them except not holding your breath next time

Dead right, been through this. Doing leg press, felt like I got hit across the back of the head with a 4x2, then it moved over the top of my head.

It's all in the breathing, and yes it's common.

When I got it lots of people were worried about a brain bleed. Even got a lumber puncture out of it (think the hospital had a bunch of students and needed a guinea pig).

Haven't had it since but it did take 2 weeks for it to go away. Just watch the breathing and try not to build up too much pressure.

Spinal headaches are caused by leakage of spinal fluid through a puncture hole in the membrane that surrounds the spinal cord. This leakage decreases the pressure exerted by the spinal fluid on the brain and spinal cord, which leads to a headache.

Wish the Dr told me this....
