well theres a tegel chicken wholesale outlet that sell bulk chkn breasts etc on ben lomond cresent pakuranga

any idea on the prices for that place? I would be keen to check it out if its cheaper than mad butcher

I usually hang around for boneless skin on breast at mad butcher when its on specials 11.99/kg and just take the skin off works out cheaper. today got boneless skinless thigh (bit higher fat content) for 9.99/kg

Another good option is fish, if you go to bulk shops, gilmours etc you can get hoki, whiting etc for 8$/kg or even cheaper, and they are decent protein and real low fat.

Guess I never really thought of going to see my local butcher. I just assumed there are places where meats pretty much a steal. I'm guessing if I do buy whole sale, I won't find anything good for less than $9.50 a kilo?

Generally $10 a kg for breast is great price. If you see it, stock up... I'm not sure if there are any places that consistently sell at that price any. Chicken chopchop 160g can work out to be around $15 a kg, if you get on special. around $2.20. Worth extra $5 in terms of convenience IMO.

don't knock it until you have tried it!

A million people can't be wrong?

I ate everything off the menu at Hong Kong Food City, in Cavendish Drive, Manukau (mid 80's). The family went there every couple of weeks coming back from nanas place. Any of you South Auckland peeps, remember it? Big gold painted Buddhas outside.

It got closed down, eventually, due to cat skins blocking the drains.

It wasn't widely published, but my uncle was working for teh council at the time, so we got all the details.

Local businesses had blockage issues, and they traced it back to a blockage that was directly from HKFC.

Cat skins!

So, at some stage I did, and it tasted nice. I think it was the orange glazed chicken, as the meat was thin and stringy, with a natural glossy finish.

No wonder Buddha was laughing. Round eyes paying for cat.

Lol. Our aversion to eating certain animals is socially constructed.. for example it is disgusting for Muslim's to eat pork and for Hindi's to eat cows. I have eaten dog meat before and found it fine- just chewy, generic tasting red meat. Wouldn't mind giving cat a try based on Severe's recommendation :pfft:

That's a cheapies chicken isn't it??

I shop at a different cheapies branch, they have chicken skin on breasts for $12.50/kg (just put their price up). If anyone knows cheaper than this I'd love to know???

edit - what bulk shops are those denzil? cheap fish sounds good too!
