Tips for competition day

make sure you are aware of the "rules" for the meet too. Length of wraps, no V neck shirts, large logos, normal briefs underpants etc. IPF Rules here

Good call bro. Be good to see some of our referees having a look at the rules also.

Good read bro, how come you're not a big advocate of the sodium load/bloat ala Dave Tate? How different was your nutrition on the day when you were competing at elite level compared to what you mentioned in the article?

You make me sound so old Rookie!

I think Tate is referring to those feds with a 24 weigh in where you have guys losing 10 kgs and then attempting to put it on before lifting. Any bloated feeling when you lift is not good. IMO it changes your leverages. The deadlift in particular.

You know I like to keep things simple mate. Comp day is not a good time to experiment with new drinks or food. Eat what you would normally eat and snack when you need to.

Golden rule.....

Did I ever tell you about the time I trialed sodium bi-carb at the Central Districts..... ran from the squat racks in wraps & suit and pissed about 2 litres out my ass in 2 seconds! FAIL

Changing you size at the last minute also effects the fit of suits & shirts, which at elite level can mean the difference between bombing & winning your class with PR's. Not the time for changes.

Haha! My mistake, yeah that's what he was referring to.

 remember that time on the way to the Greymouth bench comp last year  at least I know for next time never to have fish oil on an empty stomach before lifting!

It staggers me the number of guys who puke while deadlifting. That's not right.

Platform staff should get to rub their bloody noses in it.
