Hi Everybody - i have registered with your site officially one minute ago - my husband has been talking about turning his family pack into a six pack and well he is not the type of guy who actually turns words into action - not unless it involves the kids - rugby betting - or working lol - so as his forever partner I am looking for him - i would like to find out for him - where to start - the benefit to me ? - He's Happy - He is healthier - He is away from the TV - Mum is Happy - the whole family benefits.

Can you tell me or direct me - what do we need to consider first - My Hubby does not want to be Arnold Schwarz - he just wants to be and look better.

Where does he start ?

mayb play some strongman/powerlifting training videos via youtube to him and see if that style of training would be appealing to him. tyres/sandbangs/heavy lifts/towing cars etc, abit more functional strength/outdoor training as aposed to treadmills and body-building routines.

As already mentioned, your husband needs to want to do it, more for himself than anything else however you can help motivate him by maybe taking up the gym also? There are a host of benefits to your health/general well being not too mention self esteem and a better sex life all of which most people are generally aware of, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded ;)

Being more active also benefits the kids, being able to keep up with their high energy activities makes parenting easier and more involved. It also sets a good example.

Find a basic weight training program on the net revolving around basic compound movements: Squat, dead lift, Bench press, overhead press, Clean and jerk, rows and chin ups. The particulars of such a program you can find from doing some googling. Take a look at Mark Rippetoe's starting strength.

You can find info on the program here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/ ... ength_Wiki

There are other similar programs out there but this is a good introduction to basic weight training and your husband should build a good amount of muscle and strength.

To get that six pack your husband will need to engage in some cardiovascular exercise up to 3 times a week of high intensity cardio as well as a good diet that is high in protein (the general consensus is 1.5-2.0g of protein per kg of bodyweight). Take a look at the journals section to get an idea of the kind of foods other people are eating.

You may want to use the services of a personal trainer a number of which can be found on here.

Good luck and remember consistency is key.
