Cash-strapped crash course in eating large

If you haven't read that nutrition is numero uno when it comes to gettin' massive, then you either can't read, or don't have eyes.

But how many times have you mistaken that high-pitched bitch-whinge sound for a small animal being deepfried, and then realised that it's actually the voice of a hardgainer crying like a little girl to her momma and saying that he just doesn't have the coin to shell out for a 2 kilo steak each lunch time?

Yes: eating enough can be an expensive task - but let's be honest, all hobbies and sports burn cash, right? You didn't decide to get jacked because you've got some extra cash layin round that needs smoking, you decided to get jacked because massiveness is fuckin O for oarsome.

But eating large doesn't mean you've gotta eat gourmet. So the question I'm putting out there this morning is what advice/experience do you have to offer on eating like a freak with a girl-scout sized wallet?

Suggestions and thoughts anyone?

I'll start it off by stating the obvious.

You pretty much can't go wrong with tuna and rice. Cheap as chips, and way better for you. I always buy a 185g tin for each day of the week with the weekly shopping and choose whichever is on special.

Also, everyone knows that nuts are an essential part of a bodybuilder's diet. One thing I'd like to know is what's the most economic way to buy nuts, and which types are the best value for money in terms of proteins, fats etc. Anyone know?

Mince. Cheapest source of red meat I can find. Mince with brown rice & chilli sauce. Mince with eggs. Mince with broccolli & chilli sauce. Mince with baked beans & chilli sauce. Mince with mince & chilli sauce. At $8.49/kg I eat mince most nights. And if you're worried about the fat, do what I do...brown it in the pan, then dump it in a sieve, run it under the hot tap til the water runs through clear, wash out the pan, then carry on. I'd say that cuts out at least half of the fat, probably a lot more.

I normally boil mine first and drain but this sounds like it would be way faster! Cheers dude im gonna adopt this method :D

I am a student and poor. Just about all my protein comes from eggs (super cheap for a tray), mince, tuna, milk, nuts and whey powder.

For carbs I mostly eat beans and oats (both super cheap).

I dream of chicken breasts and steaks =P~

Lol I dream of breasts too.

Does anyone know how to cook eggs in a microwave? We don't have any other means at work, but yeah, eggs are good source of protein and fat that I should utilize more.

Whisk them in a nuke-safe bowl, 3/4-cover it with glad wrap, zap it. Pull out and stir every 30sec or so til done. Voilla...scrambled eggs in about 2 min.

Yeah Jess, dfefinitely faster. Plus I find boiled mince tastes like rancid ass

Protein and carbs have largely been covered, and given that you're taking in adequate protein for growth and carbs to help fuel the intense workouts, it can be quite cheap and easy to make up extra calories with fat. Some disagree with me, but I think olive oil is a great way to add calories through the day and help growth. It's cheap, healthy, and easy to add to/disguise in so many foods, without bloating you up. I think far too many people involved in weight training only focus on protein and carbs, and forget that fats are just as important.

Interested to know where you get $8.50/kg mince? I'm assuming it isn't premium? Fat is easy to drain off but the prob with mince is you never know what you are actually eating .

Was a mince fiend for a while but realised that chicken breast is cheaper than mince if you look at grams of protein/$. Gotta mix it up I think though for health reasons so can alternate beef and chicken.

Was thinking about this the other day. Cows and chickens are the ultimate bbing animals. Eggs, chicken breast, beef, milk - what more could you want?

Milk is pretty cheap - will prob get cheaper with all this uproar over how xpensive it is.

Rice obviously cheap and if you use the microwave you can have over 3kg of perfectly cooked rice in 15min. Just fill a 3rd of a pyrex bowl w/ rice, pour water in till you have half n half, microwave 15mins (depends on microwave strength), bam perfect rice no pissing round with elements and letting it sit etc etc.

Veges just get them frozen and tip them in to the pan when the meat nearly done. Find if you get them fresh you often struggle to use it before it goes off or you finish it and have to run to the supo. Better to get mixed vege, chuck in freezer. Easy to monitor how much you have left, saves time chopping, cheap, win.

Here's meat I cooked today

file.php?id=9893&mode=viewpost-6829-14166821916425_thumb.jpg

on special, marinated cooked in 15, rice ready in 15, chuck in a tupaware, your away.

Milk is great not just for the slow release protein but you can use the bottle after so you don't have to get out of your bed in the fucking freezing middle of night cold to take a leak

Countdown has it this week for $8.49, but usually it's $8.99 for the 1kg+ trays. And no, it's definitely not premium, but at that price, who gives a rat's ass?

I had two bottles of piss sitting on my bedside table when my girlfriend came round. She thought it was cordial, was soooo tempted to not tell her and pour her a glass :pfft:

Some lessons I have learned the hard way:

- Don't stick your knob in too far because when you piss you get bigger and the bottle can cut off the flow, then you get a build up and then you can't stop it from popping out and shooting piss all over your room (had to throw my puffer jacket in the wash in the middle of the night).

- Make sure it isn't already 3/4 full when you start or you will have to tense up mid-flow and transfer to another bottle. If you don't have a bottle there is always the window. I used to use the window but my room is right on the sidewalk. People would just tunnel-vision past lololololololol

found a good cheap source of protein if you buy in bulk, was searching around gilmours henderson for chicken breast (which was more expensive than mad butcher) and found Whiting fillets, boneless skinless, 32$ for 5kg inc gst. 2gm fat and 18gm protein per 100gm. they had hoki for around the same price too.

good alternative to chicken if you get sick of it too
