Just thought I'd put this up as peeps from the central north island may like to see a Strongman comp. Not often the small centres get things like this.

Details are a little bit sketchy but I understand Levi is opening a gym / training facility at his place and has decided to put on a show for the locals.

Darcy Quirke (Rotorua vis Hawkes Bay), Sam Magele & myself (Hawkes Bay), Mick Cotrell (Bay of Plenty), Wayne Watson (Wanganui), and a couple of guys I've never met from Auckland & Wellington will be competing.

Events include farmers walk, a loading event, yoke walk, tyre flip and some others I can't recall right now! :pfft: :grin:

Should be fun!

Heard Levi has had medals made up for the event, and a Celtic sword for the winner! :clap: Damn just have to beat everyone first! Maybe if Big Sam win I could trade it for a machete! :grin: I'm hoping he wont function too well in the sub zero environment Waiouru is reknown for! :pfft:

Sounds like I've got a chaffeur tomorrow!

Phil's going to drive me, Xav's, Lisa and Sam up in the Statesman.... ahhh Luxury! Turn the seat warmers on chaffeur it's getting a little chilly! :pfft: :grin:

Will be a luxury to be able to sleep on the way up rather than drive the Napier-Taihape road that I don't really know & isn't completely sealed. :nod:

Will make sure we get plenty of pix.

I'll have a great day for sure - always good with family & friends and the boys from the Iron Brotherhood! I dunno about the sword being all mine, in JPS's words "I have a very big problem over there - 170 kilos of problem", not Geoff Capes in my case but the trim Sam Magele (closer to 160 now tho, down from 210 last year). Mick Cottrell will be hard to beat as well, and Darcy is looking strong.

I'll be going all out to win, but at less than 100kg its always hard to take out the big boys, although Juoko Ahola showed time & time again its doable!

No he's just putting the show on for locals I believe. He's still a strong guy, but he's also a businessman - no doubt in my mind he makes more money than any other Strongman in the country.

Well we headed up to the Comp not really knowing what to expect, but the big fella came through with a hell of a show.

First up his gym (in the middle of Taihape & Waiouru on SH1) was like a mini Powerhouse, with more chains & bands and a set of Atlas Stones and a heap of Strongman training gear. Mos def worth a trip to train there even just to view the photos & memorabilia - personal favorite was the photo of Levi with Juoko Ahola.

Levi had lined up a lot of sponsors and they had seating & shade tents sent up which made it cool for the crowd. A band, "Maori's in the Garage" played in between events & played metal riffs as the events ran! Made for a pretty cool atmosphere. In the lunch break a dance crew & the Harmonica dude of NZ's got Talent performed. All in all the atmosphere was as good as I've seen in NZ Strongman (with exception perhaps of Matt Rossiter's 2009 Big Boys Toys NZSM).

The competitors were Mick (BOP), Ravi & Peni (Akld), Sam, Darc & Nate (HB), Wayne (Wanganui) & Mark (Wgtn).

The events moved pretty quickly and top 4 placings were:

Farmers - Mick, Sam, Nate, Darc

Deadlift Frame - Ravi, Sam, Mick, Nate

Chain Yoke - Mick, Sam, Nate, Wayne

Tyre Flip - Mick, Sam, Darc, Nate

Barrell Loading - Nate, Sam, Mick, Wayne

Prizes were good $60, $50, $40, $30 for top 4 each event, and $350, $250, $150 for overall top 3. All competitors got medals with the top place getter also getting an awesome Celtic Sword Trophy!

Top 3 Overall - Mick, Sam, Nate. Very close for the win with Mick beating Sam by only 1 point!

Great day - I will certainly learn a lot from the organisation of the event, very smooth. I think the MC helped things move along (the guy from the Mitre10 radio adverts) and kept the crowd laughing!

Well done Levi & good luck for the Worlds Strongest Man trip later this year.
