Hernia

Bugger! M8 it comes with the territory. You can end up with 3 that will need to be repaired over time. Umbilical Hernia in the belly button & both sides of the groin these are known as Inguinal Hernias. As far as competition is concerned, if it is hugely visable (normally only umbilical) you could get marked down by some judges but unlikly to effect you at regional or national level. Hey Bro they can be a real pain but once fixed you will be able to lift more than before after a few months. Take care, mnz

Have had two now. First one via a big feed of fish n chips before heavy Deadlifts 15 years ago. Was umbilical & had operated on reasonably quickly - easy recovery and back to squats (very light!) within a month.

Recently had a 'sports hernia', which is basically when your adductor fights you abs and wins! Ended up with a torn adductor and a small hernia through the lower abs (almost at pubic symphysis area). It's not like a inguinal or umbilical hernia in the sense the intestine doesn't bulge through but causes some pain. Off to surgeon next week, will delay surgery until two SM comps are finished, then tidy up & hit BBing for a bit.

Hi, I just had one operated on last Wednesday.

It was an Epigastric Hernia and I may have been born with it but just never noticed it until I competed and got my BF low enough to see it, lol!

It was never painful but in the last two years it did become sore off-season when my BF, especially internally, was increased.

I went the public health way and from my hospital consultation last July where I was considered "priority" (within 6 mths), well, I have now just had the op 8 mths later. I would recommend that someone gets it done while their BF is low as the incision would be smaller.

I have not yet looked at my scar as it has the waterproof covering on it, but I am  that it is neat, small and STRAIGHT!!! LOL!!!

No heavy lifting for 6 weeks so doing hi-rep, lighter training and plenty of cardio.

Cheers!

Monty

How do you know you got a hernia?

Is there visible signs or pain?

i have noticed it this year as i am dieting again last year it was not there, above my bellybutton about an inch above. i can push it in and its not painful but the lump will come back in an hour or so, its only small but i know its there.

i have tried to feel a whole but theres nothing i went to the doc she gave me a referral for a scan, she was not sure if it is even a hernia,

Shit really this sounds wat I got a year ago in the gym. Nothing tore I dont think but it felt like my abs were trying to do circles inside me i swear I could feel them moving around, and for a couple of mins I was bent over the machine waiting for it to stop. Knocked the colour off my face and felt like my nuts had been kicked severely. Had to call it quits that day.

Was on the preacher curl doing the stack so tensing abs alot.

You think this was close to a hernia?...Dr Nate

Sounds more like a twisted testicle :pfft:  Never had one but one of the boys in my rugby team did & ended up in hospital!

My sports hernia felt like a real bad adductor tear (which it was as well!) but all the way up over the pubic symphysis & into lower abs. Now after a heavy training I can 'squish' a bit of intestine (I assume?) around but cant really feel any hole. Surgeon next week! Apparently this kind of injuery is common for soccer players & the like when changing direction quickly and adductor rips.

With the umbilical hernia I heard a slight pop but it wasnt sore. Three days later I was taking a piss & I felt something move in my belly button!! I pushed it & it squished back and I could partially push my finger into the hole in the ab wall with no pain at all.

All part of the game I suppose! LOL

You still got inguinial hernia to look forward to Mr Strongman. It gets interesting when your intestines are protruding out further than your sack is hanging. Its like an additional nut.
