Leg Press ROM

Recommended Posts

What is your ROM like on Leg Press?

I used to go about 2 inches above parallel, not knowing any different but once I started hitting parallel, I got much better growth.

On the other hand I've seen other guys, even the pros' using "partial" ROM similar or shorter than my former ROM and still having mad wheels so what do you guys use to the best effect for yourselves?

I think you only go down as far as you can without rotating your hips off the bench. Over exagerrating the range of motion can cause some serious injuries especially when you start to go up in weight. Mostly I put my feet mid pad or slightly lower and maybe just outside shoulder width to get a decent range of motion.

I used to go as deep as I could before the tummy got in the way  With my current lower back issues I've discovered that if I stop just before my lower back starts to curl, not only does it spare my back, but it also leaves all the stress on my quads. So on quad day I'm only really doing about 1/2 - 3/4 ROM on heavy-low-rep sets, but can still go pretty much full depth on light-high-rep sets.

I agree with the above posts. I try and go as low as I can until a) my gut gets in the way and b) my back curls off the seat. I find the shallower rom allows constant tension on the quads, which for me, is a plus as I have a fat arse and upper hams area and no meat around the knee joint.
