forearms?

Recommended Posts

Anyone here works them out? I used to but one of the trainers that I saw said it's pointless to do them since when you do hammer curls/dead lifts/most pulling excercises you work them out

the thing is I have small-ish forearms (12 inches, mind you my biceps aren't much better off...15 inches both cold) would there be much of a point of me adding forearms excercises to my routines , or should I just continue doing what I am doing and hope that somehow they grow at some stage?

I am a fairly short guy (175 cm and do have a small wrist so maybe it's just my genetic to have smallish forearms)

You're not that short hahaha. Not compared to me anyway. You may as well wank if you want to just work out forearms. The PT was right though, you work forearms when you do that. All biceps exercises, deadlifts and shrugs work your forearms (there are more exercises). Don't even worry about it; they'll come along.

Theres nothing wrong with a bit of direct forearm work. Sure your forearms get worked with pulling exercises and bi's but lets be honest, a big set of f*ck off forearms are awesome! Wrist curls, 50 rep sets are killers mix it up with some heavy stuff every now and then, grippers for reps, and plate pinches have helped me put a bit of size on them.

ok so is it low rep or high reps or a mix for the ultimate forearm workout?

Gotta do both but they'll get the heavy work from heavy free weight bicep exercises and back, give them direct work with lighter weights through wrist curls (behind the back ones look so gay) and plate pinches etc

My forearms are my weak link in most back and bicep workouts.thanks for the info.

I train mine a little bit... if you think they need training then they probably do.

quess its like doing direct core work

if you do heavy squats, deads, mill press etc lunges.... your core gets worked too and increases in strength as you go

just like your forearms get worked when ur doing other exercises.

therefore i dont do any direct core work or forearm work. however i started to last week for somthing new to do and try :)

Keep in mind that forearms, like calves, are largely genetic. If you've already been doing a lot of heavy pulling movements aswell as curls/hammer curls and they haven't grown, then they perhaps won't be going to.

I think genetics effect more than just calves and forearms. every thing will grow if stimulated properly blaming genetics is just an excuse.

I agree to a certain degree. I mean just cos they might be stubborn doesn't mean they can't be improved. Sure they won't grow to be like Lee Priests forearms but anything can be improved.

Exactly Im not saying if you lift enough you will be the next ronnie coleman but if its muscle it will grow. Bone structure on the other hand thats genetics.

I think "stimulation" of the muscle is key,I have played basketball all my life yet am still struggling to bring up my calves.until a year back when I decided was enough was enough when my wife went to massage my calves and she said "what calves".Now I do calf workouts every workout and hit it from all angles ,although my calves havent really grown alot there is really good muscle definition there after a year of toiling and making them my priority.I'm still struggling to stick some inches on them,my ankles are skinny and the calves are really high.I was an ectomorph before 57 kgs on a 6 foot frame and now im 81 with 18% bodyfat ,down from 99 with 29% bodyfat. So The real question is why the f*ck??didnt i get fat man calves???

That was a lol! Bro i was a fat c*nt to, my legs are fkn tiny!

I hear you about the "stimulation" bro, i cycle, kickbox and did quite a bit of running before i got into the weights, and i find stuff like my quads and calves (muscle groups i used a lot) are hard to grow. Hitting the squats hard recently and the most growth has been in the glutes. Soon ill be know for my ghetto booty O___O.

As for forearms...dont think ive ever trained them individually.

Strangely im right handed and my left forearm is bigger! Must be overtraining the right side somehow hmmmmmmm :shifty:
