To Pee or not to Pee

Well as the headline suggests im trying to find a way to avoid getting up every night in the early hours of the morning to go to take a whiz after the water consumed during training in the evening with my bed time shake.

Its becoming an issue getting to sleep and broken sleep patterns, and of course waking partners or others in the house. I whiz before bed but still need to go about 2am, just wondering if anyone has any tricks.

The only thing that I can suggest is bladder training. Durning the day you want to wait for the second urge before you go. You bladder has two points in it to tell you to pee. the first one is very low in the bladder so its only approx 50-100ml the next one is near the top approx 250-300mls. If you train your bladder for the second urge it will learn to be able to hold on.

After this you need to work out what time to STOP drinking before bed. As I train in the morning now I dont have this problem as much. But for me I still stop drinking about 2030-2100. I then tend to go to bed at 2200-2300hrs and this is when I have a shake before I go to sleep. I now can go all night without waiting to pee.

Like a lot of people on here, if you're going to have a shake before bed you'll just have to get used to the nightly pee. Once it becomes routine the problem lessens and you eventually learn to get back to sleep afterwards.

And if you're bulking, take the opportunity to have another shake as well.

Have found that if I've been drinking alcohol beforehand I go right through. Might be the dehydration from the alcohol.

Jeez, you guys who can stop drinking half an hour before bed and not get up in the night are so bloody lucky. Since I was a kid I've pretty much never been able to sleep the whole night through without getting up, even if I drink nothing but the tiniest sips when absolutely necessary after 3pm, and nothing unless I'm dying of dehydration after 6pm.

It's definitely one of the reasons why evening training is not for me - just can't have that much liquid in the body post 3pm, or I'll be up twice instead of the normal once.

Have tried all the bladder training in the world (both for not going as much during the day as well as not going during the night), but nothing works - if I need to go, I need to go, and trying to ignore it just means that it keeps on waking me up through the night, rather than if I just get up, do it, and get back to bed.

Thankfully I've never had kids - hate to think what I'd be like if I had the womanly bladder issues that come with that as well as my natural Woolworths bladder!

Common as, have found Melatonin to b very helpful, prob in addition to above posts suggestions.

Melatonin keeps me in a sleep state so even though I get up I just crash again afterwards so not fully waking.

Where and in what form is this available? Thanks.

Andy.

Can try to buy online i suggest get 3mg ones can always half them if too strong. Need a prescription else they most likely get stopped. There is short and long acting one so play with this more than dosage.

My experience, go to doctor tell him u want to try, doctor wont say no it's milder than a sleeping pill. Buy online then email immediately with a copy of prescription and ask them to add it to your package. Customs will read that when they open your box and let it through. Theres limit of 3mths supply or 90 tabs even with prescription, to get more than that requires a different letter from doctor saying he will handle your access to them.

Alternatively, take prescription to chemist and you will pay $50 for a bottle, no biggie.

I buy same brand online as chemist here dishes out to ensure quality, but buy whatever suits your budget.

totally agree with that, i will always get up once to take a leak but since being on melatonin it dosen't really feel like you are awake, infact some times i almost get all the way to the loo without opening my eyes.

I wonder what difference there is in waking up from deep rem sleep to drink a shake, vs eating meat before bedtime and sleeping 8-9hrs getting that deep sleep.

Justin Rhys had night time feeds but then he also used loads of fantasy to get that deep sleep, best of both worlds...if I had to pick one I'd pick the good night sleep on a full stomach of meat, or a caesin shake.

I have to get up like twice a night to pee since being on mass gain diet, drives me insane, as I had problems getting back to sleep. Went to Dr who I had to ask to prescribe me melatonin as he had only done so once before. Now I just feel sleepy when i go for a piss, and makes it a little easier to get back to sleep + increases your testosterone apparently

But peeing during night still bugs me :-s

Waking up once during the night to go to the toilet is fine, but if you're doing it more than once I would be concerned, especially if you're using supplements that have been known to damage kidneys (even some protein powders could do this) or change blood pressure levels. It makes sense to get up once if you've had massive amounts to drink, you would normally void it all that time, but you shouldn't really have to get up a second time unless you drink more when you're awake

I have been getting up at least twice a night for so long I don't even notice it really. The only time I sleep through is if I am drunk as a skunk which isn't that often. When I am dieting it's more like 3 or sometimes 4 times a night.
