Being overweight is good for you

This afternoons Radio NZ's show "The Panel" had an interesting section about new information which has come out of a study saying that being fat or 'pear shaped' is actually not bad for you at all, and in fact being overweight (but not obese) is better for you in the long run:

- Body shape and body fat is a very poor predictor of health outcome.

- Best predictor of health are your post code and how much you earn.

interested to see how much the theory gets trashed on this forum?

Seems stupid to me.

Terrible encouragement for fat people. They even listed both studies say obesity is still a risk factor.

- Body shape and body fat is a very poor predictor of health outcome.

True. But being fat you're not healthy, You may be healthy in some situations but there will be risk factors like they have said and more.

- Best predictor of health are your post code and how much you earn.

Yes true again. Bodybuilding is not cheap and being fat is usually an outcome of not being aware of whats good and not and also good foods are not cheap. Cokes cheaper than milk for example.

Isn't cholesterol problems due to a bad diet. In the majority of adults, a bad diet will make them fat. Making it very likely that they are unhealthy and fat.

Also they're talking about BMI. It's said that the BMI does not apply to athletes and they're relating to to The All Blacks. WTF?

Totally disagree - Who is going to teach their children to be fat because its good for them.
